6mt - First gear selection issue

I was wondering if anyone has had this problem.

It is a situation when you are stationery and the gearbox will not select first gear (and first gear only) unless you:
  1. clutch in and out
  2. select another gear then 1st
  3. or give the engine some revs and then it manages to slot into first

It seems to be an intermittent problem I have had with the car since new (now at 30,500kms). The Honda dealer says the first gear selection is normal. They have bled the clutch - that didn't do anything. They also replaced the gear box oil - still the same.

Is this normal and should I push Honda to fix it.

Normally, when ur rollin' even at a fair low speed you might not be able to go into first, but since you said you were stationary, i don't know what the problem might be.But if you were stationary, you wouldn't need to rev the engine to get it into first gear though

Hi yfin! It's me, aaronng. Hehe. Just to add to the forum members, my car would not engage first at low speeds for the first 2 months. After that, I had a master cylinder replacement and I am now able to enter 1st gear even when I am above ~20mph. You reckon they brokemy 1st gear lockout?

I think it is a slow 1st gear syncro (as it does work but seems to take longer than normal) - or the clutch is not fully disengaging when I select 1st. I don't think it is the latter as the clutch seems fine in other gears.

Any one else find this?

It goes only half way to first before you try the a, b, and c method right?

Yep - those things I list above are the methods I have tried that work.
