Exclamation 5th Gear Whistle

I took a highway trip recently in my TSX and noticed that whenever I went above 65-70mph, I would hear a high-pitched (tea pot boiling) whistle coming from the engine compartment. The noise was constant and would stop when taking the foot off the gas.

I've done a search and noticed that a few people have had a similar problem related to some gaps and side mirrors and such, however, what bothers me is the following. If I drop the transmission into 4th gear (I have an auto), the sound disappears. Basically, the only time I hear it is if I am going above 65mph+, foot on the gas, and in 5th gear. Shift into 4th and do the same, and the engine sounds normal.

Anyone know what this could be? Sounds like a transmission issue to me since the sound disappears in 4th gear. Any help would be appreciated.

For reference, my car is a 2006, auto tranny, almost 30K miles.

Thanks!

Its something with the final gear, i think you have a major issue when you hear this whine under 45 mph.

I don't think I hear anything unusual under 65mph.

I remembered someone said it's the torque converter causing the sound.
Mine had the same sound. Since I bought mine used and out of warranty, I just assumed it was normal.
I can hear the sound under 45 mph and only at 5th gear.

Is it cause for concern? I took it in to the dealership before, they reproduced the problem, put a note in the records, and didn't really fix anything. They said if it develops into a problem later they will have record of it happening earlier.

Anyone experience this and had a successful fix/diagnosis? If it's the torque converter, does it need to be fixed, or is it just an annoyance?

i also hear a whining noise at 45 mph in 5th gear. you said it's not normal so does that mean it qualifies to be looked at under warranty?

It better be. I am starting to realize that no matter how many bells and whistles Honda is putting in their cars they are still pieces of shit. No matter how many bells and whistles you put on a piece of shit it is still just a piece of shit. Sorry for being so adamant about this but when you have a CL in your drive way that doesn't drive and a newer 08 TL type S 6 spd, that is making new noises by the day, it just becomes too much. I figured out that the TYPE S badge on my steering wheel and on the back of my car stands for "SHIT". As in 31k piece of shit.
