Post 25,000 mile service & repairs

Took my TSX in at 25,010 miles yesterday, for the following:

- oil change
- pulsating brakes
- car pulls to the left
- scratched clock cover (snapped in a hot day)
- moving driver's seat on turns (side-ways)
- rust on right door
- trunk wire harness recall

At pick-up, here's what I got:

- oil changed, $25
- new brake pads and machined rotors (front only), one-time no cost service
- wheels aligned (all four were out of spec, I'll post document they gave me with figures tonight), cost $59
- new clock on order, warranty
- driver's seat track on order, warranty
- no rust present (I cleaned it a week ago), so no attempt to repair
- trunk makes noise when closing (will complain when I take the car back for warranty repairs); the left plastic trim covering the moving metal arm rubs on something internal in the trunk (out of sight).

Total cost $87.82. Satisfaction: 70%.

Oops, should've been more specific.

Besides changing oil and its filter, have you taken your TSX for manual recommeded maintenance?

Slo, I had the same rubbing sound coming from the drivers side trunk hinge cover when I picked my car up from its first oil change. Turned out that tucked in to the backside of that hinge is the wiring harness that is the subject of a recall. It turned out that they had performed the recall and wrapped the wiring harness and failed to put the plastic cover back on tight.
Perhaps this is what happened to yours if we are talking about the same location.

I had mine doing the same thing, but it was long before the recall on the wiring harness. I know when they put on the rear spoiler that they have to remove that plastic cover to run the wiring for the brake light. Don't know if you have the spoiler or not. Anyway, they replaced the snap that the plastic cover clicks into and all is good for me.

I had the 5 & 10k services done at a Honda dealer (no Acura within 200 miles from SLO). It was pretty much just an oil change, since they had never seen the car before.

15k was an oil change at the local Acura dealer.

20k was a more extensive service, cost like $150, as per the manual specified.

25k was just an oil change.

30k will be more extensive again, probably in another 2.5 months

I think so. The snaps are all loose on the arm. I'm making them replace them with new ones.

Got my car back yesterday. The dealer put a new clock display, and it works great. No more ugly scratches!!

They also fixed the loose trim in the trunk, and it doesn't make any more noise.

And they replaced the seat track; but I need to do some more driving before I can announce complete success.

Mine does this too after getting the recall done. Slightly annoying. The trim rubs on the holes. If I push it in, it won't rub until it unjars itself again.

Wait til you hit the 30K checkup. Talk about an expensive one.

I think I was jacked over $150 on mine and the charges came out to $550 or so.

Hey! I haven't seen you a quite a while!! How have you been?

What dealership did you go to?

That's pretty expensive.

Hoehn in Carlsbad. Only cause they are one of the few who still give rental cars for only $10/day.

I'm still here checking in now and then. I haven't seen Jeremy much on here recently either since the board software update.

Yeah, Kearny Mesa stopped giving out loaners. I was disappointed, but since they are 4 mins from CAT, I decided to go there.

I was thinking in going whale watching (sailing) next Saturday. Would you like to join us? We'd leave San Diego through the bay, go straight out, move around a bit - near Pt Loma, hopefully not get run over by a ship, and turn back. All in 4 hrs.

Right now I have one other person confirmed to go.

Unfortunately I have to be in LA Saturday or else I would definitely be interested. Keep me in mind for next time though.

Are all these problems on 04 models only? That is, the seat rails, trunk noise, and left pull.

The left pull would be a problem for any car whose front toe measures as it did on this car.

I was surprised to see rear camber out of spec. makes me wonder if I should check mine- though I have zero pull and good tire wear, I wonder if something is off....hmmmmm.

The trunk noise was the result of poor service by the dealership. The car didn't have the noise prior to the recall service. The other issues are very common with 2004 models.

According to the sheet, they still left it out of spec. Should I complain? Tire wear has been very good (that is, small amount of wear). I had to replace the tires on my Jetta by the time the car reached 24k miles. The tires on the TSX will easily reach 30k.

Its not out by much, but if you frequently carried people/weight it could impact tire wear much easier then if it were in spec. This now has me thinking, so I will throw my car on the alignment rack in the next few days and see how much adjustment is available for rear camber. I recall looking last time I had the car up on a lift and saw cams for adjustment of toe and camber, but I see so many cars in a day its hard to keep track, if its adjustable the way I think it is it should be a piece of cake to adjust on a car this new and there is no reason not to other then a lazy tech.

Also they used a Hunter alignment rack(which is also what I use) and this rack bases its measurments off thrustline which will change slightly with the rears being in spec. and may require a little tweak on the front after its adjusted.

There isn't any camber adjustments via the normal means on the TSX. I believe LannyM had his rear camber adjusted by shifting the entire rear carriage from one side to the other by a small amount, thus even out the settings. However, if both right and left cambers are off about the same amount, shifting the carriage will not do anything.

I had my loose trim inspected the other day and the service manager said some of the clips weren't holding after they the trim was put back. They had to order some new clips but they'll go on next time I'm at the dealership.

It was 115 F outside, my car is black on black, and I imagine the temperatures inside the car got so hot, the plastic trim snapped. I noticed it immediately when I got into the car after work -- as you can tell in the picture, it's very noticeable.

If you moved your finger across the surface (first thing the dealer tech did), you wouldn't feel anything. The damage is inside the plastic.

Pretty weird stuff! BTW, it happened while I worked in Sunnyvale (located south of San Francisco Bay). Boy, it was hot there! And very dry.

Should I have the local Tire Store do another alignment when I get new tires? (probably in the fall) Or just balance?

I'm a newbie when it comes to tires. But I know I won't be getting the same ones!

Thanks
