2007 Acura TSX Check Airbag System(Passenger Airbag Off)
I was involved in an accident a while back where I ran into a car in front of me at a relatively high rate of speed (60-70mph). My Acura's airbag did not deploy however ever since then my dashboard indicator constantly displays a "Check Airbag System" icon and the Passenger Airbag is Off Light is also ever present. I'd like to avoid the dealerships automotive $150 diagnostic fee coupled w/any subsequent repair costs therein. Thoughts, ideas, suggestions on how I can reset on my own?
Unfortunately, it doesn't seem as though I can post an image of my car; but take my word that the front damage was exceedingly significant. Shouldn't my airbags have deployed?

My son had a low speed accident a few year ago in our 06 TSX and rear ended a car leaving a stop light (sun was in his eyes and didn't realize the car in front of him stopped in the middle of the intersection). It caused $6500 worth of damage and deployed the driver's airbag and seatbelt pre-tensioner. Got everything repaired; but, local shop couldn't get the check airbag light to go off. They had to take it to Acura to reset. I don't know if Acura had to replace any parts or if it was just labor. Cost was covered by insurance and the Acura trip wasn't listed on the bill.
What would concern me would be:
- no driver airbag deployment from a high speed collision. You either have a faulty air bag system or the vehicle you rear ended was also moving to reduce the de-acceleration G-Forces. You were going 70 mph and the car in front was going 60 mph for only 10 mph at point of contact.
- Your seatbelt didn't do the pre-tensioner thing. You have to replace the seatbelt once this happens. It could be related to airbag not deploying because of the same reasons as above.
- Passenger airbag off light. There is a weight sensor to turn off the passenger airbag for kids under a certain weight (I think 50-75lbs). The passenger airbag will not deploy with no-one in the passenger seat or if you have a lightweight person in the passenger seat. This warning is always off if no-one is sitting in the seat. The only time I've seen this warning is when I carry something heavy in the passenger seat or my wife would un-do the seatbelt to reach something in the back and shifts her weight.
Is there a chance there was an accident in the past with this TSX and the airbags and sensors were not repaired correctly?

2007 Acura TSX check airbag system
Allow me to begin with a HUGE thank for replying to my airbag inquiry so thoroughly. Thanks for taking the time.
You might be spot on as the car ahead of me was in fact moving at a good rate of speed as well but the said the damage was as such that it begged the question of what possible type of accident is required for deployment would it have takethe aidbags.
In regards to the Passenger airbag off blinking button:sign: it’s on all the time every time regardless if someone is sitting on the seat or not. Odd?
