2005 TL Steering at Highway Speeds

I recently purchased a 2005 TL. Overall, the car is a dream to drive. My only complaint is that I find the steering wheel is too easy to turn at hightway speeds. I am not saying there is too much freeplay in the wheel (it is very responsive), but that it doesn't have enough resistance when I apply pressure one way or the other. As a result, any bump in the road causes the steering wheel to jump left/right, especially when leaning into corners. I need two hands on the wheel at highway speeds at all times. I thought a car like this would have a much stiffer wheel at faster speeds.

Do I have to upgrade to the type s, or can something be done?

I currently have left-over Avon Tech M550 tires. They are noisy as heck and feel very plasticky. I am anxious to get new grippier and wider tires to see if that helps.

I played with the tire pressure to eliminate it as a possible cause. I also had the tires balenced, wheels aligned, tires rotated.

It is not a progressive issue, it has remained the same over several months.

Incidently, the stiffness of the TL steering wheel when I am trying to park the car is exactly the feeling I want at hightway speeds. For comparison, I am use to driving a Civic Si. Even though it is a much less expensive car, the feel of the steering wheel is much more appealing on the open road.
