'05 TSX Leaking Steering Rack - Dealer Response
My '05 TSX is leaking power steering fluid from the right side of the rack. I don't know if I want to perform the repair myself. I called White Bear Acura (MN) told them that the rack was leaking and asked for a rough estimate to repair. The service writer responded that they would first need to diagnose the problem. That would cost $130 and take 1 hour. I fully understand that some problems take time to diagnose and the dealer should be compensated for that time. I just can't see how it would take an hour to confirm that I have leaking steering rack. I may call one of the other two dealers in the Twin Cities.
If you're right and rack is leaking PS fluid, it is extremely likely that any shop will only want to replace the rack to repair. That is an expensive job to repair a leak.
It is theoretically possible to repair the rack in place. See following video of job on a Toyota Tundra:
Job would be similar on TSX, however access issues may may job more/less difficult.
Job is only for the deterimined DIY'r.
good luck
