04 Navi turning WRONG WAY?
I bought a CPO 2004 TSX 6MT/Navi, and I'm thrilled with it overall. One aspect, however, is driving me nuts.
Every time I turn left, my GPS thinks I turned right. Same way when I turn right, it thinks I went left. It fixes itself, usually within 1/8 to 1/4 mile - but it seems like a long time. And it happens consistently without fail - even when I'm on a ramp taking a much wider turn.
This is extremely irritating, especially when I'm in a city or area where I need directions at the 'block' level.
Has anyone else experienced this problem? My dealer said it's how all of them are... I don't believe him.

The navi system works by monitoring signals from several satellites in orbit and calculating your location via triangulation. It might do it if you're in a downtown area with alot of tall buildings around you...the signals are blocked or reflected, which can confuse the navigation.
Also, if you're close to the north or south poles, you might have problems since I believe most satellites are near the equator...
If it's doing it all the time, then there is definitely a problem with your navigation system. Is it always re-calculating as you move forward in a straight street? (or does it think you're facing backwards?)
It's defintely not normal. My car has never done that, even in huge parking structures or even by a really tall building.
I'd take it to a different dealer. Even if you convince him that it's not normal, it seems like he's incompetent anyway to fix it for you ;-)
I don't think it even has a sense of right/left. It should be re-calculating your position, so whether you turned left or right, it should have calculated your new position relative to the old one.

1) It's not the north-facing / vehicle tracking mode that's the problem. I know about that feature and it's not what's misguiding the system.
2) I'm in New Jersey. My house is in a rural area and there is little to no overhead restriction for the satellite receiver. It's not getting confused with near cross/parallel streets.
3) I'm pretty sure that in Acura Navi systems, there are two input components: one is the vehicle computer, speed, and gyroscopes that tell the navigation immediate information (this is why you can still see your progress and location in a tunnel or parking garage); the other is its satellite receiver that tells the bearing/heading, time of day, and coordinates.
4) It's constantly wrong for about 1/8 to 1/4 mile. After this, it corrects its position and when I'm travelling in a straight path (after 1/8-1/4 mi past my last turn), it is correct.
5) I called a different dealer, and he said it's worth taking a look at.
I have a service appointment Jan 6, I'll let you all know how it goes. If anyone else has suggestions, I'd appreciate them.
Thanks, and happy new year to all!
