Wow, that's a surprise too...

Btw, I forgot to ask on the last post, what brand of coilvers are you on? I'm planning to get the A4 Avant later this year, so we'll be playing the same toys

I've always loved ur car....

it was my inspiration (minus the rediculiuosly expensive rims)

PS i've always had a distaste for the new A4's but urs is actually pretty sharp with the rims

Definitely one of the nicest TSXs on here; the Audi isn't bad either!

I'm on TEIN Super Street. I was going for KW V2, but the price on the TEIN was just too attractive. I wouldn't mind going with Bilstein PSS9 though. The Audi guys said good things about the Bilstein.

If you wanna get the A4 Avant, I suggest you get an 06 before the 07s hit the dealers' lots. Audi took away some features from the 07 but the price will either stay the same or increase a little. One important thing that Audi took away from the 07 is the free maintenance.

Thanks for the tip, I'm most likely gonna get the 06, that way I can save a few bucks for mods What else did Audi take out? My friend went with bilsteins on his A3, and when I rode in it, I didn't even know he had upgraded the suspensions, very comfortable ride.

thread revival! Hey wong, I know you drive both quite often so I'd ask for your input.....I am strongly considering switching to an new A4 2.0T s-line. Just wondering how it drives (performance and handling primarily) compared to the TSX. Many thanks.

I know VWONG was on yesterday, but maybe this'll help. I've met two Audi Fanatics in the Ramblings sections who both own A4's and their knowledge on them, well, it's more than mine

Maybe you can shoot them a PM.

Crazy Sellout

or

pimpravi

Crazy Sellout seems to be quite the knowledgeable one in this case. Shoot them a PM, they're quite the friendly ones.

aww shucks

I would hold off buying a new 2.0t A4. The new A4 is suppose to be out his fall i think.

2.0t is a great motor and i had one for a loaner. With that said i dont think i would switch from a TSX to it. At least not yet till i see what the new A4 has to offer.

Stock for Stock though both cars are very comparable. Although the loaner 2.0t I had didnt have sport package.

yeah i was planning on holding out for the updated a4 anyway. I just saw somewhere that the 2.0t engine won some sort of "best engine" award recently. I am thinking that with the s-line package and quattro, it would probably out handle the stock tsx. Although my current TSX is running on koni yellows/pro-kit with F and R sway bars.

I'm wondering how they compare power wise (pick up off the line), considering the Audi has more torque. Also, not sure about the fit and finish of the Audi compared to the Ack.

Good timing that you ask this question since I just dyno'd the A4 yesterday. Hopefully, I'll have the comparison dyno graph up soon. But here are the numbers.

06 Audi A4 2.0T quattro (stock), 196.5 whp, 209.9 lb-ft

Just for comparison, my TSX's numbers are as follows.

04 Acura TSX (stock), 185.9 whp, 158.2 lb-ft
04 Acura TSX (Hondata reflashed), 187.7 whp, 160.0 lb-ft

BTW, all of the above dyno's were done on the same Dynapack dyno at Church's Automotive Testing.

The dyno's (the graphs) confirmed what I felt with both cars. With the Hondata reflash, the TSX continues to pull on the higher rpm range up to redline, whereas the A4 pretty much stops pulling after 5000 rpm. However, at low end, the A4 has big advantage over the TSX. Peak torque of 209.9 lb-ft comes in at around 2700 rpm in the A4. That is 40 lb-ft more than the TSX.

Off the line, the A4 definitely feels quicker especially with the quattro. I haven't tried (and probably will not happen) 5000 rpm clutch dump at the launch, but I've done close to 3000 rpm clutch dump and there is no wheel spin, thanks to the quattro system.

As for handling, I still prefer the TSX. It's more nimble around turns. The one freeway on-ramp near my house, I feel that the TSX can hug that turn very nicely while I accelerate thru out the entire on-ramp. The A4 seems to push a little bit more. On higher speed sweepers (70+ mph), the A4 also shows a little understeer as well. I'm probably going to say that is because the A4 is heavier, and the springs in the A4 seem to be on the soft side.

hmmm....thanks for the input. Hopefully the new s-line package would eliminate some of that softness in the springs. We'll see what happens with the new a4...

The S-line springs are gonna be soft also. When I said the springs are on the soft side, I was actually referring to the spring rates that came with the TEIN SS coilovers. I think Stasis and Bilstein coilovers have stiffer springs than TEIN. I might put stiffer springs in the A4 some time in the future.
