Request: Milano Red with Tints
Which tint %'s did you use? I live in NY and i'm pretty sure you're not allowed to tint the fronts but I'm going to do it anyway. I'm thinking about 35%? Do they make anything between 20-35%?
I'm thinking of gunmetal rims with polished lip so I dont know if i want a deeper black or a titanium tint. Here are the rims if it matters..ADR Cypher
Also, i've heard about dipping the windows in a tint solution? Pros/cons and cost? Any recommended shops in Brooklyn that use machines to cut the tint patterns?

Uhm, I'm from NY, and last I knew, you were allowed to have 35% tint in the front. You sure that's changed?
I moved to NC about 8 - 9 years ago, and every time I visit NY, I see plenty of cars with front tint.
I used to have like 20% all around before NY changed the law to a 35% requirement in the front.

from NYC, and you are allowed 35% up front and i think just about anything on the rest of the car.
This is what it was when i got my 92 accord done 6-7 years ago. I had 35 in the front and 20 in the back. The installer said i could have gone limo in the back though.

A09698 Memo:
TITLE OF BILL: An act to amend the vehicle and traffic law, in
relation to prohibiting tinted windows in motor vehicles
PURPOSE OR GENERAL IDEA OF BILL: Provides that motor vehicles shall
not have tinted front or side windows.
JUSTIFICATION: Tinted windows jeopardize the safety of our law
enforcement personnel and serve a very limited useful purpose. One of
the most dangerous parts of a police officers job is a car stop and
these are made even more dangerous when the windows prevent the
officer from looking inside the vehicle. Often, police cannot see
inside a vehicle at security car-stops due to darkly tinted windows.
Behind these windows, drivers can engage in other unlawful activities
such as cell phone use, drinking from an open container or abusing
controlled substances, all without being seen. Further, if a driver
in a heavily tinted car becomes involved in a hit-and-run, no
eyewitness could identify him or her. Tinted windows greatly
eliminate the possibility of an eyewitness description in such an
accident.
Moreover, on the road a great deal of visual communication occurs
driver-to driver. We have all been in the situation where we wave on
another driver at an intersection, or point to indicate a flat tire, or similar situation. Tinted windows can make communication more difficult between drivers on the road.
PRIOR LEGISLATIVE HISTORY: This is new legislation.
EFFECTIVE DATE: This act shall take effect 180 days after it shall
have become a law.
.This is the amendent to the original section 375 passed in 1992..

TITLE OF BILL : An act to amend the vehicle and traffic law, in
relation to tinting on motor vehicle windows and making an
appropriation therefor
PURPOSE OR GENERAL IDEA OF BILL : To make applicable to all motor
vehicles in New York State tinting standards for rear side windows
which currently are applicable only to station wagons, sedans,
hardtops, coupes, hatchbacks and convertibles.
SUMMARY OF SPECIFIC PROVISIONS :
Section 1. Amends subdivision 12-a of section 375 of the vehicle and
traffic law, as amended by chapter 155 of the laws of 1991, by
omitting the list of enumerated vehicles from subdivision (3).
Section 2. Makes an appropriation of $50,000 from the state`s general
fund for the purpose of enabling the superintendent of state police to
purchase window tint meters necessary for carrying out the provisions
of this act.
Section 3. Effective date.
JUSTIFICATION : There is growing concern that our police officers are
at great risk when approaching vehicles with heavily tinted windows,
because the officers cannot see illegal substances, weapons or
potentially harmful activity of persons inside such vehicles. This
bill attempts to address those concerns by making current window
tinting standards for rear side windows applicable to all motor
vehicles which operate upon any public highway, road or street in New
York State.
Moreover, to facilitate the enforcement of this act, the bill makes an
appropriation of $50,000 for the purchase of tint meters needed to
measure the percent of light transmittance in windows suspected of
violating this act.
FISCAL IMPLICATIONS : Fifty Thousand ($50,000) to the State of New
York.
EFFECTIVE DATE : This act shall take effect immediately

In summary: 72% of the light must be able to pass through the windows (sides and front). The back window is not regulated. So, anything darker than stock is illegal.
I haven't been able to find anything in between 20-35. 28 would be perfect.
