Pics of my almost-completed custom grill

Here it is. Took me a while. I still have a little left to do: sand to remove some imperfections that couldnt be seen without the paint, and attach the A emblem. The A emblem is from the stock grill.
Now I know why people just buy the Mugen grill, cause trying to get it smooth is a PITA.
Hopefully ill have it on by Tuesday.
I didnt creat a DIY for this since I really didnt know if it was going to end up like I wanted it to, but it did. If anyone has any questions, feel free to pm me.

Test fitting the A

Lookin good - did you just buy the lower piece of the oem grill, take off the other pieces, add your own mesh and paint it?

no, theres no way to buy just the lower peice of the oem grill
only way it comes is the whole thing in tact...i had to cut out the 3 slats that go across, then fiberglass the holes, then bondo the entire thing, then paint and mesh....

Nice job, you should re-design the 09 TSX's grill for Acura! I'm sure you can do better.

Did this to my old accord grill

Shitty thing is when its put in very hot or very cold weather the plastic and fiberglass expand and contract differently and you will get cracks .

correct.
best thing to do is make a mold out of that one there that's different materials.
and with that mold cast a new one all of the same material.
then cast more, sell them, and pay for the whole thing and then some.

...

we're waiting you know.

hmm i took out my grill too. mines an 06.. i just removed the chrome in the middle... and kept the a.. furthermore i think i'm going to dremel off the whole middle pieces.... then buy some mesh and using the screw holes that are there to keep the emblems on.. i could just screw in the mesh!? seems pretty simple.. is that what u did?

I'm not trying to knock you or anything, but you can do way better. You didn't sand nearly enough. Hit it with 800 grit dry paper until it's uniformly scuffed looking. Then go to 1000 grit wet sanding. I'd recommend going to a body shop or paint supply place and getting a can of spray paint mixed to match your car. It won't be cheap, maybe $40 I haven't done it in a long time. Get some compatible clear coat while you're there. Wet sand the clear coat with 2000 grit and it will blend right into the bumper.

I've fixed a lot of bike plastics and there's a good chance you'll get some cracking with the fiberglass. You might be alright seeing as that piece of plastic has very little stress on it. Vibration is usually the biggest problem with the cracking.

I like it, looks just like the a mugen replica, but I'm sure it was much cheaper of a mod to diy. Hey I'm considering sending you mine.

Again, I'm not trying to rip on you, just offering some advice. The sanding is far from perfect. I have spent way to much time repairing and painting plastic. Look at the paint on your bumper, which is also plastic. You can get the grill to be every bit as shiny even with off the shelf paint. You just need to get finer sand paper, at least 1500, and be patient. I didn't see you mention the paint being temporary anywhere btw.

It's your car so do what you want, I'm just trying to offer some advice based on the large amount of experience I have in this area.
