I added a switch and a relay because the fogs would always be ON whenever the park lights are ON.

I have HID fogs, so you wouldn't want them to flash at all.

When the switch is OFF, everything works just like it should when stock.

When it is turned ON, fogs come on with the park lights, independent of the headlights and I am still able to put on my low beams and my high beams.

It is basically the same configuration as DWest1023, except I didn't purchase an OEM fog button.

Hope that clears it up for you.

^^^06 - 08 has the switch on the light stalk attached to the wheel, if I turn off my fogs in general on there they wont come on at all either and no need to any special switch. Works just like stock.

what if instead of tapping the fog lights wire to the parking, and tapped it to 12V ACC as it's source. Then fog lights would be able to turn on independent of the parking lights, but still turn off when the car is off.

Yes, that would work. But connecting them to the parking lights with a switch, gives you options. I can leave the switch on, and just turn the parking lights on, and the fogs will come on too. I never run the fogs without the parking anyway.

what I meant was you would retain the on/off with the switch on the stalk (retaining the same wiring diagram the op had put up). I just didn't want parking lights to be required in order to turn the fog lights on.

You would do it the way tookie did it and only tap the blue/white line under the wheel and scrap the parking light connection part

but that would bypass the fog lights turning off when the key is taken out of the ignition wouldn't it? If I remember the scanned diagram, the relay's power is actually connected to a fuse that is then connected to the battery which would make it always hot, right?

I really should just whip out the voltmeter haha.

clee - I'm going to make this mod this weekend. What type of splice and plug connectors did you use in your write up? Are they just as reliable as the conventional crimping method?

Thanks for the help!

You can get them at any stereo store. I don't know what the exact name is, just ask for "wire tap connector things" LOL it worked for me, the guy knew exactly what I was talking about.

As for the reliability of them I have not had a problem to date.

5. Cut the dark blue/black wire on the harness the strip about an 1/8" of an inch off of the blue/black wire coming from the relay. Then strip a 1/4" of your extension wire and twist the two together, then slide the heat shrink over it and put a lighter to it to make it shrink.

When you cut that blue/black wire at the relay under the hood and attach the extension wire to it.. what do you do with the end coming from the harness? i assume just cap it off?

Please Help

i need some help with my fog lights, hoping someone can assist. i have my foglights ( password JDM ) installed and everything was working fine up until these last 3 days they randomly turn off and i have to turn off my entire lights then switch them back on. i noticed that they stay on for roughly a half hour and now today they turned off after just a few minutes.. im not sure what could be the problem and read up a couple posts to find nothing that can help. does anyone have any insight as to what this could be.
Thanks in advance,

have you checked your wiring connections? Possibly a connection is loose and could be shorting out, touching metal, etc...

I didnt even have to take off nothing from the steering wheel. I jus wired my fogs from the park light and used the switch that same with it. Got my fog light set up from Ebay. The only thing that was a bytch was to put the fogs on.

Heres a pic.

Have anyone trying to run the relay power wire to a HOT IN ON OR START wire?

This will allow you to turn the fog light on without the parking light. Once the car is turned OFF, the relay will lose its power and therefore turning off the fog lights.

I'm thinking of doing this, but most of the HOT IN ON OR START wires are connecting to a 15A fuse or lower. I don't feel safe when connecting the relay power wire to a lower amp fuse (the relay is powering on a 20A fuse currently)

The only fuse that is higher than 20A is the 30A wire running to the windshield wiper motor. However, this wire is hidden behind the Under-dash Fuse/Relay Box and I could not get to it.

So after a couple of minutes browsing through my Electrical Troubleshooting manual I noticed that you can add a 20A fuse to one of the empty location in the X connector (fuse 29 or fuse 31). You can then run your relay power wire to pin 20 or 16 of the X connector. Does anyone know where I can find a terminal wire for the X connector?

HIDs have a way cooler operating temperature than halogens so if you were going to melt your lenses you would have done it faster with the halogens

Thread resurrection.

This mod is easy enough and seems it can be done within 30 mins. I was wondering if there is a way to wire the fogs up by maybe adding in a switch like a SPDT? I want them to come on without the lights needing to be on but then can switch it to the other on position and then they operate as normal. Mainly to pass inspection as the fogs need to turn off in order to pass here in VA when the highbeams go on. Has anybody addressed this issue? Thanks.

Have you tried this yet? Are you saying instead of running the blue/orange wire to the parking lights, run it to pin 16 or 20 on connector X? I have tons of harnesses left over from swaps ive done and would rather depin and pin the connectors than to hack wires. This will allow the fogs to retain the auto off feature and not blink during locking or unlocking with the fob.

Well I successfully rewired the fogs to work but didn't do the parking light connection. HOWEVER, I didn't cut the blue/black wire in the relay but just spliced into it and it works fine. Will this cause any issues? I did this in hoping I'd still lose the fogs with high beams but I don't.

So I'm thinking of adding in a switch in the wire I have from the stalk to the fog relay in the engine, simple on/off switch. Hopefully this can swap btwn it working like it should from the factory (in off position) and then turning on and off per my choice (in on position). Any one see any issues with this setup?

Oh man, does anybody have any idea how to put that rubber boot back on? The one that has a bunch of wires going through the firewall into the passenger side. It doesn't exactly just push back on to the white plastic disc.

You can cut a small slit in it for the new wire running through, or you can just manipulate it the best you can. I just manipulated it myself and have never had any issues or leaks.

I followed the instructions listed here to rewire my fogs. Initially I only tapped the fog light relay and didn't tap the parking light power wire. One night I forgot to turn the fog lights off since they worked independently and came back to the car in the morning and the battery was dead. The next weekend I went ahead and tapped the parking light wire and haven't had an problems since. This was a great mod and I would definitely recommend it.

im not sure if it was mention on here but, i know that there is a green light that lights up in the gauge cluster, once fog light is on, so my question is..will this mod delete that feature on the gauge cluster.

I'm actually planning on doing this today. The Green indicator light will only function if you have your low beams on (i.e. function as normal). It was not designed to function otherwise (i.e. independent of low beams).

One question (I think was answered) is that because I have HID fogs, I don't want them flashing with the parking lights. I BELIEVE that if I turn them off with the 06 OEM stalk switch - they will not do this. Correct? (crossing fingers) - or else I will go back to LED fogs... (+style/-visibility)

as long as you have the fog switch on the stalk turned off they wont flash with the parking lights.
