EZ-pass

Should I keep my ez-pass up or take it down? I think it looks a bit on the tacky side.

A friend of mine puts his tag on the lower left corner of his windshield, where his registration tags are. It's a little more discreet there and he hasn't had problems triggering at the booth. As for me, I just hold it up when I go through. Haven't gotten in trouble for it yet..

I dont think it looks great I admit. However, I feel that sometimes is ok to sacrifice looks for practicality. That's why my vote was to keep it.

I have an I-Pass, similar to EZ-Pass, but mines is for the Illinois State Tollways.

I didn't want it on my windshield because like you said its tacky and it might get stolen, so I have my I-Pass in the glove box and it still works fine for me. The sensors at the toll still detects it even if its in the glove box.

i actually placed my ezpass on the part where the windshield is tinted so its less noticable.

also...are you in the military? ft belvoir i presume? the reason i ask is bc of the sticker on top of the windshield.

Is it work on I-Pass Express and I-Pass Only lane? I am thinking about the sunglass holder, but have not try it yet.

I have mine up on the pass. side of the rearview mrror as high as possible. It can not be seen from the front of the car due to the tint band and works fine.
Later on I will try and post a pic or 2 or it.

this is what my friend does with his--it works with the Smart Tag, ssm.

I have mine up in the spot right behind the mirror.

edited to add: when I didn't have it up, having to downshift and hold the thing up to be scanned while going through the toll gate was a pain--there's nothing like when some a-hole in an SUV jumps into the Smart Tag lane in front of you--and you have to abruptly slow down.

don't mean to dig this up from the dead, but I got a question about stickers.

As far as I can tell VA state stickers have to be placed in the lower middle of the winshield like ssm_tsx's. But I see plenty of pics of TSX's w/ their stickers in the lower left (pics from NJ meet ).

Does it vary state to state or what?

in VA the stickers have to be where mine are. I think you can get a ticket if they're not there. When my car was inspected I asked the dealer to put the sticker away from the sunlight sensor. They agreed...

What's the issue with where it is? I just take it down when it's not in use..thats why it has those velcro-like strips to allow for easy removal.

Ditto

I think the inspection stickers are state-specific. And wtf's up with those county stickers in VA?? That's lame :thumbsdn:

Hi,

Is it possible for you to take it off? Here we have some transponders for the toll roads. All I do is keep it in the glove or the center compartment or the dash while im on the *small handful* of toll roads that exist in Orange County. I then put it back in when im off the road.

I've heard that they can install external EZ/Sun (I'm im in FL) passes. Do they put them under/behind the front fender/grill (out of sight)?

Thanks,

Scott

I leave mine in the glove compartment and put it up when I go through a toll. I noticed you have G-Stickers on you windshield...you stationed in Norfolk? In the Navy or Marines? I'm in the Navy stationed in Groton, CT. Didn't know anyone else on the forum was military.....cool

Here in California, we pay only state tax so there is only a sticker on your license plate. When I was a kid, my family lived in Chicago, and I remember the whole right edge of the windshield with "Cook County" stickers on it.

I live in Cook County, IL and thankfully we have no such stickers anymore. Just state stickers on the plate. There are "village" stickers where I live and "city" stickers in Chicago itself, but I don't buy them. I don't need that crap littering my windshield!

Don't know about FL, but up in NY an external tag is an option (they charge for it tho, as opposed to a freebie internal tag). The thing mounts to your front licence plate bolts, and is a black bar about an inch high, a half an inch thick, and slightly longer than the center to center distance of your plate hanger. I have one, and it works well, theft is a much bigger issue tho (which is why they charge for it, I think, thankfully, I haven't lost it yet). You might be able to help me out though: not all states require a front licence plate (NY does). If my state didn't require it, I'd get rid of the bracket that the whole shebang mounts to (nice clean look), but then, where would I put the external tag?

A member from the TL board took apart their EZ-Pass and put the electronic part inside the a-pillar and it worked fine.

Those of you in IL.... If you go to Jewel you can get this black plastic thing with a suction cup on it for like 5 bucks to put the ipass in. It fits up above the mirror on the tint stripe and since theres no glue it wont mess anything up. It's nice because you can't see it from the outside of the car and it blends in well with the ebony interior so it's not a big deal on the inside either.
