There's no way they can say that's supposed to be stainless. Really, how much are they saving by going for a carbon steel over a stainless? It might cost them $30 to do the whole header in stainless.

I'm sure they are saving more than that, mild steel vs stainless steel especially with the additional mount on the manifold for the turbo does take a decent amount of fabrication. It seems like this might be a recent switch to mild steel. Many of the original Cybernation kit owners CLAIM they don't have the same problem,

Well carbon steel tubing is going for about $0.70/lb and T304 stainless can be upwards of $2/lb. I don't know how many pounds go into a header but it can't be that much. It looks like they just said, "fuck it, nobody will know" and they just pocketed the difference.

I agree, its definitely a way of cutting costs and in the process cutting quality. Your numbers state that they cut the price of their materials by more than half. They obviously buy the materials in large quantities. Unfortunately the pictures show the results of their actions,

Exactly. If they don't care about something like that, what else don't they care about?

Why are there so many sleazy manufacturers in the aftermarket industry?

One of these days, I'm going to show the industry what quality is all about.

....why don't you just high-temp coat the piping that way you won't run into problems? That'll easily solve the problem.

It wasn't just the piping, it sounds like they had a bunch of warped header flanges too.

For $4,000 you'd think they could make one of the least expensive components to fabricate out of stainless steel.

The pipes also need cut to fit correctly. They hang down below the front bumper cover and look ghetto.

Of course you could get them coated but you shouldn't have to is the point.

I thought HKS had something in the works.

HKS will be more expensive than Cybernation though. Also, the HKS turbo systems are normally designed for street applications so it will use a smaller, ball-bearing turbo that will spool quickly, but won't have the top end pull or overall output of the Cybernation kit.

This is based upon the RSX's kit information.

Mrsteve-- Thanks for breaking it down. To me it's one thing to say something sucks without proof. Your pics speak louder than words. Thanks for clearing that up.

I talked to a rep at hks today and he said that there is no contemplation...............There is no way that they are going to sell or produce a turbo kit for the tsx!

seems to me i should ask you for advice.

if you were to build a custom turbo for the TSX. how would you do it? (if money is not a issue.)

Number 1, before you even buy anything. Determine what you can use to tune the car.

AEM EMS, GReddy E-Manage, V-AFC, etc, etc. Without tuning you really aren't going to be able to run safely.

I mean what are your goals? Street kit? Full race kit? Etc etc.

A memeber on the CL forum, BlueCLS6 works for Garrett Turbochargers and could assist you in selected the perfect turbo for the TSX motor.

The HKS manifold looks good and I'd see if that will fit or can be modified to fit.

Either get a head gasket to lower the compression ratio or new pistons. It all depends on what you are looking for...
