TSX Speed Mods: What to do, and in what order?
I recently purchased a TSX for my daily driver. I am ready to begin mods for speed and need some guidance. I have checked into Comptech (dealer installed) for headers, exhaust, and CAI. I am looking forward to getting the turbo kit from them as well, but how will this affect my warranty?
What else can I do, how much $$, and what kind of HP increase and acceleration (0-60 times) should result?
Satin Silver/Ebony 5AT/non-Nav
20% tint back/sides
2001 Lexus RX300
Former owner of:
1999 4Runner Ltd
1996 Civic HB
1994 Integra

1) Comptech doesn't sell turbos, they sell superchargers but they don't have one available yet.
2) If you go for a supercharger you'll want to get a K-Pro from Hondata (also not yet available).
3) The CAI will be replaced when you go for the supercharger.
4) Intake is about 12hp, headers about 5hp, exhaust 3-5hp. Stokeless has the highest dyno so far with a custom intake and exhaust and he's putting 184.6hp to the ground.
5) It's still too early to speculate what gains you'll see from the Comptech supercharger and Hondata. Rest assured, it will be fast!

Thanks for the info, Dan. Since many Acura dealers back up products from Comptech, will it be the same for the supercharger?
Also, a friend told me to be on the lookout a V2 induction system instead of CAI or supercharger. What do you think about that option, if it was to become available? Also, how much difference in the exhaust systems available now?

If you buy from a Comptech dealer they have an agreement to extend the warranty to cover their mods.
V2 is a type of CAI but made by AEM. They were rumored to be working on one but I haven't heard anything for a while. It'll maybe be good for 14-16hp. It's certainly not in the same league as a supercharger but that's also why it costs 20 times less.
I haven't been following the exhaust market with much interest since it seems that the factory setup is pretty efficient as is. The performance gains I've seen have been very minimal especially when you consider the $/hp ratio. If you want to do it for sound or cosmetic reasons then thats another story.

I don't want five-inch tailpipes that you can hear two miles away, and I love the look of the factory exhaust. I would like something that boosts the horses a little and growls at idle speed, but does not change the look too much. I want to build a sleeper that looks factory but smokes off the line. Guess I should have bought a 6MT, but I do a lot of city driving and it is nice to be able to convert from SS to full auto on a whim. It does feel like I don't have as much "umph" as I would with the 6MT.

You can also look into a lightweight flywheel. It's a really nice mod to have, and you don't sacrifice much comfort, and no noise.
It was probably the mod I enjoyed the most back in my Accord days.

Comptech's header is ridiculous for the price, DC's is a POS that will break. Exhausts give jack horsepower, but still cost more than almost every other engine/suspension mod put together.
Flywheel is a good thought, however none exists yet, or has been installed yet at least. Same w/ underdrive pulleys, etc etc.

Before you start making the TSX go fast, you wanna make sure you can make use of the currently available hp and suspension. The best, first "mod" that you can make is taking a racing school. That'll improve your skills and allow you to take advantange of the full potential of the car.

There is a good explanation re: Hondata reflash and forced induction mods in the sticky thread, so read it if you are contemplating turbo or supercharging.

I think www.drivingconcepts.com has a good thing going...400+ bucks for a day's fun with 30 other cars.....serves breakfast/lunch and a great staff...
I started in the year 2000 and have spent about $2500 on track days, i'm now 20 or so seconds faster than my 1st time at the same track.....i doubt any power/suspension upgrade can give you 20 seconds in a 3 mile road course with 20+ turns

dont worry about too much power right now. If you want serious power you have to have patience to wait for the SC or turbo kits to become available. And even with those you will have to wait for the hondata......

if you are in FL...i believe they have events at Sebring international raceway =)
once you get the hang of performnace driving...then you can get suspension/power to suit your driving style...no one drives alike so your car settings shouldn't be identical either..
