Exclamation Torque Converter

My friend told me about this Honda Torque Converter.. its built for auto tranny's and it basically it gets our AT quicker off the line.. more low end torque.. my friend has it done on a IS300.. and he's held his own and then some against some nice cars.. for example turbo charged eclipse, etc.. the converter isnt out for our car yet.. but its in the process. takes about a 1000$ to install since the stock converter needs to be shipped to japan, modified, then shipped back to US, then installed back in the car...

Not a bad price for what it can do...

This info i recieved was thru word of mouth, also i checked up on it at yahoo.com, found some interesting articles on how it worked.. havent experienced it for my own. so if anyone has some more knowledge on this subject, then enlighten me.

Firstly, I've never heard of any specific aftermarket torqueconverter for Honda.

Secondly, you only posted 15 minutes ago...chill out and give it some time.

Lastly,. its 1AM eastern time...not too many people on the site. Chill out and give it till tomorrow

Like many other great promises this will not give you a whole lot to brag about. Maybe .1-.2 in 0-60. Certainly doesn't seem to be worth the money and hassle (and probably voided warranty). You can't get more low end torque out of the torque converter, you can only get whatever torque the engine puts out to the ground a little bit better. If you want better launches you should buy an MT and learn how to properly use a clutch. Even with the best torque converter an MT equiped TSX will take an AT every time (all other things being equal).

There's nothing wrong with the TSX's torque converter... leave it alone!

This "super" torque converter can't do anything miraculous for the performance of SS TSX's. The best it can do is improve the driveline loss by a couple % at most. You'll still be nowhere near the efficiency of a 6MT equipped TSX. Most drag cars have beefed up torque converters to handle the extra strain developed by a forced induction engine.

It's not like this device gives you more torque or something....

THe majority of what a tq convert is good for is to raise the initial stall speed. Imagine that if you floored an AT off the line it hooked up at 2700rpms(stock torque peak) instead of like 2000, it would probably be good for a couple tenths of a 60' time.

The thing about the tsx AT is that it has a solenoid controlled "active lockup torque converter" which means it is electronically controlled and can lookup at various speeds.(www.acuranews.com) I'm not sure what that means for an aftermarket tq converter.

DAN, its a given a 6mt is better. but for those who have already purchased the AT cant just go return their car with a receipt like its some irregular merchandise... most likely we stuck with the AT's. and we got them for a reason. but, we would like to see what we can do with these tranny's.. no thought of out runnin a 6mt with this, jus givin us a lil more "go" for our own experience with the car....

I couldn't justify being without my car for a month while the part is shipped to japan, have them fuck around with it for a while, then ship it back and have it installed. Plus you get to pay $1000 for that privilege. The car won't drive like stock and you'll void the warranty on your drivetrain.

I just can't see the benefit for a couple tenths in the 1/4. If you are going to go that big on the install why not make it worthwhile and go for a turbo or something.

give up drag racing and take up autocrossing, takes more skill and doesn't really matter if you have AT or MT
