Dave from SMS does some nice stuffs. I had my Civic custom resonated test pipe made by him. I might still have the contact info...

I've got a mail off to both SMS and Hytech asking about headers for our car. We'll see wha thte response is. I found a couple of threads on header shootouts with SMS, Toda and Hytech. Some of the pics still work and some don't. Pretty good write ups though.

Here is the response I got from Hytech:
James
We will have Hondata's TSX in here on Friday to do just what you asked. Keep in touch as to when they will be available.

John

And my response to them:

Thanks for the reply. Do you know when you will be at a point when you’ll be ready for dyno testing? I’d really be interested in seeing those results.

Regards,
James

Here is their latest response to my last question:

James
It will take a few weeks to do the prototype system. Then Doug at Hondata will do the dyno testing and tuning.

quick question, since its a prototype right...what are the chances that this header might back fire down the road. As far as welding..etc.. goes!!!

It's Toda. I don't think you have anything to worry about. Their welds are freakin amazing.

I've seen the hytech headers and their work is outstanding. Prototypes might have flaws, but hey, that's why it's called a prototype. I imagine the final product will be flawless, judging from their past work.

James

EDIT: Wait, are you talking about the Toda or Hytech?

OK got a semi response from SMS. Here is the mail thread I have with them so far.
Start at the bottom of the mail thread obvioulsy.....

No, but we have a few thousand members of the TSX board. I’m sure if you checked on the board for anyone that was interested, you could find a test car. I’m a member of the Acura TSX community on Acurazine.

https://acurazine.com/

There is a thread in there about the Toda header that was under development. I asked if anyone had looked into the SMS or Hytech header. No one had so I started researching here. You should pop in to the board if you have not already. You could get a ton of feedback from TSX owners.

Thank you for your response.

Regards,
James

Thanks,

I would ask Dave to design a header with the most optimized length, size to match with a custom cat. Not just a replacement header to join up with the stock cat. According to Hondata, longer primary and secondary tubing is the key for better gain.

I have offered to drive down from pa and drop off my car before I leave for college as long as they promise to keep it inside whenever know one is around and they are responsible for anything damaged or stolen. They could have the car until like november and i could pick it up over my thanksgiving brake.

Any word on this?

Any update here?
Is there a formal list going? If so... count me in. What I pose to the moderators is a favor to us desperate ones seeking the minnimum number of 10 folk to go in on this buy. Lets say... post a list as a sticky for a few weeks to get this some attention... see if we can't hit that magic number.

Here is the email that spawned this search for this thread...
12/05/2005
Hello,

Thank you for your e-mail and interest in TODA Racing. We don't have any
plans to produce the CL9 (TSX) exhaust manifold. A prototype was made for
the Japanese CL9, and it was successfully test fitted on the American TSX.
It's a 2 piece system that comes with a CAT delete pipe. There are no plans
to go into production with this product due to the high estimated price
($1,300) and very low demand for a product in that price range.

We can do a small production run for serious buyers, but we'd need a minimum
of 10 customers who are willing to pay in advance and wait for a 3 month
production.

Best regards,
TODA Racing USA/AKH Trading

due to the fact that a custom cat needed to be created for the toda application, there was a loss of interest....

If we can get a solid list of people, lets do this. Otherwise I'm just gonna get that MaximWorks header and get a short adapter/extension fabricated.

Nice... ah man that was some funny crap.
I wish there was a way to get the attention of every TSX owner for just 30 seconds. 10 is a very small number compared to the total number of TSX owners out there.

Not everyone will spend $1300 on a header when there are cheaper alternative out there that would probably make almost as much power. And on top of that, you have to buy an aftermarket cat for it. So that is $1500 spend on a header that may be make 5 more whp than a $300 DC one. The real baller will get it, but for most ppl, they may not want to spend the $1200 for the extra 5whp and the Toda name.

do you mind if i ask how much it's going to cost you? and is the header for the cl7 or cl9? how are you going to compensate for the length of the header are you going to have a custom cat made?

sorry for all the questions it's just that myself and others have been in touch with toda and hondata(they have the 1 and only test header for the tsx) and it seems pretty tough to get the header.

The header i got is made for the CL 7 and it $1500 for it i had to buy the JDM euro r cat to have this fit on the tsx. Reason i bought the cat is both the O2 sensor bugs are on the cat. There are no o2 sensor bug on the header.

Make sure to take lots of pics when you get it. You'll be the first one in the US besides Hondata that I've heard with the headers and cat.

cccolts, i'm tossing up between the toda and mugen headers atm too... i want the one that will give the most gains. after seeing the design of both i think mugen may actually be quite good.

yep... now it's just a matter of finding some dynos ... or at least finding more out about their design. The inclusion of a high flow cat on the mugen is winning me over atm, but then again i think the toda may be cheaper? i'm finding out mugen pricing from my local car shop atm
