Stitched shift boot
Stitched shift boot
Here's a little project that I've been working on. The DC5R has red stitching on its shift boot and I saw some RSXers swap the jdm one in for the regular black stitched one. Others just DIY, and since the TSX has no JDM one I went ahead making my own.
My fiancee did all the planning and work. She got some thread from Michael's, undid all the stock stitching and proceeded to put it back together w/ the red thread. It looks fantastic and matchs my Schroth harnesses nicely (my one requirement). It hasn't been installed yet, but I should have pics after I return from travel Tuesday.

there it is on the car. looks fantastic in real life, even better than the pics. its too bad the shift boot scrunchs up on the car, it looks best taut. the thread is very nice and the color matches my harnesses perfect. the thread is a little thicker than stock and gives it a somewhat 3D look.
when I put the shift boot back on I remember some advice about keeping the shift boot up (since it has some play at the top). i wrapped a rubberband around the shifter and it servces to keep the top of the boot in place. no movement at all now which helps expand the boot just a little bit more.
next is the e-brake

my fiancee is going to post a small writeup and some pics if anyone wants to try it. she said she would sew other people's if they were interested as well for a small fee.
Looks pretty good. The red really stands out. Wonder how it'd look with a silver stitch (to match the interior trim)
Be sure to post up when you get the e-brake boot done too. That'd really make the deal for me. I'd have to pay your lady to do it though. I know somehow or another I'd F it all up.

a few updates:
the shitching on the shift boot is probably going to have to be revised. the thread used is thicker (like the dc5r shift boot) but its starting to fray a little bit since its in contact often with your hands. where's martha stewart when you need her.
I haven't figured out a good solution, but I'm wondering if thread sealent exists that'll coat the thread, otherwise we'll use a different, tighter thread.
and I took off my e-brake boot today, its actually pretty easy. you need to remove the center console as if you were installing a short shifter. there's 3 staples at the base of the e-brake. i pried a flat head screw driver under the staple and pulled it each one. after that flip the boot and there is a zip tie at the top holding the boot to the handle. cut it and the boot will come off. you'll need to replace the zip tie and staples when you put it back on.
i'll post some pics of each when they're redone.

If your car is so fast, you can come up here....
Maybe with your fast car, you can cut the 14 hour trip in half...
