Talking Spoiler Advice for a Non Fix-It Guy Please

I'm interested in adding a lip spoiler to my Arctic Blue Pearl TSX. I have a friend who will paint it, etc. but I need to get the spoiler first. I know there was some discussion of a group buy but can someone direct me (to eBay perhaps?) on which lip spoiler I should buy? I know it probably will have to be sized to fit the car. Thanks in advance for any assistance.

if your talking about the small lip spoiler that just sticks on with double sided tape, all u need is the measurement of the TSX trunk..i think its 46" or something, check first, then search on ebay for "lip spoiler" ,they have all different sizes , so just find the one that is the same length as our trunk, after u get it all you have to do is paint it and stick that thing on to the trunk, not hard at all.

Thanks for advice! Really cleared it up. I guess a follow up, would a spoiler be difficult to paint?

its not hard at all...for an auto body shop who matches the paint exactly, u cant just go buy a can of spraypaint and paint it if thats what your wondering, a shop is going to have to do it for you.

I'm waiting for a local paint guy to get back with me. He comes highly recommended. Once that happens, I'll have pics of things.

Update! After waiting for nearly 10 days for a friend of a friend to paint my spoiler, I dropped it off at the local shop the Acura dealer uses. Should get it back in a couple days and then I'll take some pics and post the before and after shots.

let me know how it turns out drthrash

I posted this in another thread, but I figure it belong here too

Hi guys, I'm new to this forum

I was reading on the Club TSX and this forum about the lip spoiler and went to ebay to buy it. This is the one I bid on.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/e...item=2459036819

After I receive the spoiler, I was a bit disappointed to find that the M3 lip spoilers are almost completely linear. If you look at the trunk of the TSX it has a slight, but noticible curve where the lip spoiler should go. I put the spoiler on top of the truck to see how it would fit, only to realize the M3 spoiler is way too straight and leaves a inch or more gap between the lip and the edge of the trunk. Just take a look at the M3 trunks they are almost completely linear, TSX are not.

here are some pics:

http://home.comcast.net/~dalokster/tsx_lip.JPG
http://home.comcast.net/~dalokster/tsx_lip3.JPG

I tried bending the PolyUrethane spoiler to see if I eventually can make it curve a little, but it is almost impossible to do. And if it is painted, I can almost guarantee that if I bend it hard enough no matter how much flex compound they mix in the paint it will crack...

So I don't know how accsuperstar did to fit this spoiler right on or near the lip of the trunk with that curve on the TSX. If someone finds out please let me know.

If not, I'm going to pay the extra dough for a Phase lip spoiler that was made to fit the TSX...
I personally would like the lip spoiler to sit on the lip of the trunk like the Phase spoiler:

http://www.aj-racing.com/images/Pro...L7/DSCN0062.jpg

Hope this help out some folks in their decision... if I decide not to keep this I will sell it for $35 bucks, but only if you pick it up in person. San Francisco Bay Area.

accsuperstar,

do have a picture of your lip spoiler in better lighting than the pics you have currently. I want to take a closer look at it. Your spoiler looks great in the pics but because of the lighting it hard to judge up close.

BTW,
how did you bend the spoiler?

I can mount the spoiler with no problem but the closer I get to the lip of the trunk--more of the left and right side of the spoiler hang off the trunk --to the point where the part of the adhesive tape is completely exposed.

Tell me how did the body shop paint your spoiler? Did they paint it with the adhesive or did they remove it, paint it, and then reapplied a fresh new doublesided tape?

sorry about all the questions, I want to make sure I'm not overlooking something before I completely give up on this M3 spoiler.

Let me know. I'd appreciate it!

Bender Unit,

please let me know how much the Phase spoiler is from Aj's. I emailed them already, however if you get the price before they email me back, then I'll make my decision sooner.

thanks man!

i had some pics of it. let me see if i can find it. mine is curved perfectly along the trunks curve. i bent it by pressing inward on the 2 sides. the 3m tape will hold the bend. as for pain the shop i went to painted mine with the 3m tape on it.

the trick to mounting the soiler is to bend it to where you want it to fit, then get a friend to mark or trace the outeredge of the spoiler so you can mark where to mount it. you can use electrical or masking tape for this. after you have it marked off, peel off the 3m tape and put it on. not hard took me and a friend about 5 mintues.

edit:

you can tell from the picture that it is bent to the lines of the trunk

see that's what I don't get, maybe my spoiler is just wacked... if you can tell from my pics, I will have to do some major bending to get it linedup with the trunk bend.

Very frustrating... do happen to remember who you bought it from on ebay? If you don't remember, if you don't mind what is your ebay id, I can look it up... through feedbacks.

Thanks for the info..

no mine looked like yours just sitting on the trunk without being bent. just push the 2 edges towards each other and the bend should be find.

my ebay id is: suelai007

If on ebay which seller. Thanks!
I honestly think that all the ebay seller who sell that M3 spoilers come from the same manufacturer.

Please tell us more info on where you bought your spoiler. This is definitely one of the first mods I will do when I get my car.

can you take step by step pics? Accsuperstar's description is a little hard to follow without actually buying the spoiler first.

Thanks guys for your help

TSXers, I bought my spoiler from autobacs1. It came from California so to my home in KY it took a little while for UPS to get it to me. My wife decided to hijack the car yesterday (funny how that happens more often than when I had a Focus) so I will get some pics posted today. To make it easier, would anyone like to host the pics for me?

As you can see, the lip spoiler had a natural bend to it. As previously stated, just some 2-sided tape and that's it. Ended up taking it to the local dealer for paint.

my lip spoiler has a nature bend to it also, but not enough to match the TSXs curve... did you have to bend it when installing it drtrash?

In case anyone want to know the quote I got from AJ Racing for the Phase lip spoiler is approx $210 USD + s&h, and it's not painted.
