Smile Spark plugs

Has anybody used the platinum spark plugs? Is it all hype or does it really improve performance?
Thanx

I think the TSX comes with them. I have been using them for years in all my cars. But they came that way from the factory. I checked my gs-r's at 50K miles and they looked real good. So I don't think it's all hype, but they do cost more (the price has come down quite a bit since 94).

The Denso Iridium plugs performed considerably better than the platinum stock plugs in my accord, however the price did not justify replacing them every 30k miles

I thought that Denso Iridium plugs were in the TSX from factory.

As a BS first guess answer...copper is more conductive than platinum offering a better and smoother energy transfer and thus a more consistent ingition.

This doesn't really answer your question but it's interesting nonetheless: (from Bosch's website)
Q. How does platinum improve a spark plug?

A. Perhaps the greatest innovation in spark plug design over the years is “pure platinum” technology, combined with multiple electrodes. As early as the 1960’s engineers recognized the value that platinum added to automotive plugs: it provides improved corrosion and erosion resistance and imparts a longer performance life than the standard copper core center electrode plug design. The use of platinum not only broadens the heat range beyond that achieved with a copper core center electrode design, but also provides extremely consistent performance, a reliable spark and a longer performance life.

So it sounds like platinum doesn't really improve horsepower but it will make for a more reliable plug.

The TSX apparently uses NGK Iridium spark plugs P/N IZFR6K11 or Denso Iridium P/N SKJ20DR-M11. Not bad at all...

Does anyone know if using the four pronged Bosch's or a similar 4 prong plug (Splitfire, etc) would be of any NOTICEABLE benefit?
