short shifter plus aftermarket shift knob - advantages?

I've searched the threads, but was not able to find anything useful.

I have a comptech short shifter installed and am thinking about getting a skunk2 shift knob, about twice the weight of the stock one. Will the knob provide any shifting benefit since I already have a short shifter?

Thanks!

A heavier knob is even more desirable with a short shifter. Since you have so much less leverage, the heavier knob will make shifts a little smoother. By that I mean the actual movement of the shifter, not the car itself.

I've had the Skunk2 and CT Short-shift on my TSX for years now... wouldn't be without it ever. Of course in the summer, the knob is hot and in the winter it is damn cold, but hey, the price you pay for even better shifting.

As LukeaTron mentioned, you want the extra weight of the knob for the SS kit.

CT short shifter and Skunk 2 shift knob here as well and love it.

Agreed with moda_way that it can be cold in the winter and hot in the summer, but nothing a baby sock over the shift knob can't handle

I had a short shifter in my old car and it always made my right elbow hurt and shifting gears was harder/rougher. As for shifter, it was pointed out that the thing gets very hot and very cold. Trust me, TSX has a smooth shifter and there isnt much need for upgrading. It is your choice tho

The heavier Skunk 2 knob is very much a good combo with the short shifter. You need the weight for the right "throw" and "pull". I have a S2000 shift knob and this was a b-day gift, so I am using this but would have loved to get the skunk 2 knob. Some of my friends have this and they swear by the feel of the extra weight.

You loose nothing, and gain incredible feel. I also have the CT short shifter. After I had the on about a year, I cut about 1" off the stick and re threaded the stick. Had it like that with the stock knob on for about 6 months, and last week installed the Blox shift knob. INCREDIBLE difference in in the feel. I wouldn't think a heaver knob would make so much difference, but it sure did!!

Sorry about the messy pic. To freakin cold to clean her up. Notice the "hot/cold" towel on the floor. With Blox or Skunk 2...like they said above, your gonna need it.

You don't have to think twice about buying a short shifter. Best $50 you can spend on the car!!

Moda had a slightly heavier knob, than the skunk2 for sale a few months ago. But the skunk2/SS combo is very comfortable.

It reduces the throw of the shift knob. Means you have to move it less to shift. It does in turn magnify what you feel through the shift knob because it essentially makes your shift faster.
I think the reduction in throw is about 35% for the TSX

Saw 2 threads asking about the lost of stock feeling when using the neuspeed short shifter.

I give u one not so positive feedback. At high revs (on the track or engage VTEC at 7500rpm and in high gear, the SS tends to be sticky and less accurate in throwing in gear. One had to be really precised in the SS mode and the heavier knob helps.

I realised that when we are rev high 7500 to 8000rpm, the engine flexs and making the stick throw more sticky. Thus, the engine damper changed this feeling to a little less sticky, but still encouraged rev up accelerator just before the gear throw to make it more slick.

There is a kink in the stick so that the knob is a little offset from centre

Oh, I see what you're saying. Yeah, it's like that on the TSX too. It just makes the knob a little further back.

I think the Mugan one that replaces everything, looses that.

Mugen & Spoon short shifter whole piece replacement takes care of that "kink" as u call it. However, the throw of these SS are longer than Neuspeed add-on piece. The difference for Mugen & Spoon SS are that you get this shorter than stock throw and the better engagement fit at high rpms reving.

I am thinking if I could actually raised my neuspeed SS up and "extend" my throw to prevent this sticky fit.

We have a specific shifter kit that serves as a complete shifter kit solution.

We know short shifters are popular because people like the short throw and seemingly faster shifting. However the increased effort is undeniable, and this flies directly in the face of the faster shifting claim. Therefore we add the Hybrid Racing bushings and a Maven Countersunk shift knob. These items will increase the smoothness taken away by the short shifter, and increase the momentum of the throw dramatically decreasing the effort needed. The HTSpec Shifter kit is a complete solution!

Shown in the image are Corsport bushings which we changed to HBR bushings for, as described in this link:

Here are the Hybrid Racing ones:http://www.heeltoeauto.com/pitboard/?p=912
