questions for ppl in canada

Hey guys,

for all your cars in Canada (not sure about USA), you know when you ignite your car engine, release hand brake (for MT), the front light will come on automatically. In Japan and any other places, that doesn't happen and it looks better without that light coming on. So have anyone tried to turn that light off? If so, can you tell me how I could do so? My brother was able to turn his RSX's light off and I hope for the TSX it is possible too.

Thanks.

it's a matter of liking the way it looks without them on. that's why ppl still do it even it's illegal.

btw my brother has never been pulled over since turning his lights off for 2 years.

if you don't like them you would ask that question. if you like it, there is hardly any good reasons but just... looks cool.

i remember someone posting a link to a flash video on honda.co.jp and i think the accord/tsx just looks sweet without the light. and again if you ask me why, it's a matter of feeling.

I usually stay behind the wheel when I'm driving and rarely see my DRLs

Why anyone cares about the look of DRLs, I don't know

Soze, who doesn't mind feeling old on this one.

I turned mine off on my IS300. It was a separate plug under the hood. Just disconnected it. You might wanna try tracing back some of the wiring to your headlamps and see if you can find it, but it could be wired up a whole different way. Since we don't have em on our TSX in the US, couldn't tell you where it's at, cause I too would disconnect them, only cause I don't like lights on during the day, safe or not. I see numerous people getting blasted during the day with DRL's, and it didn't prevent shit! My .02

lol i really don't see how DRL can be any safer. During the day, sun is the light - it's waste of energy having DRL.

Influenced by Japan? I guess us Canadians arent influenced by the millions of American released cars without DRL's. It must be a JDM thing

What about dusk and dawn? Its easier to see cars with DRL's. Period.

dusk and dawn? well then turn on the DRL (with back light on, i don't know the right term in saying it, but one "click" rotation of the light control stick) or HID. During the late morning and afternoon, which is 80% of the time where dust and dawn do not affect, DRL will become useless.

Why not just be flexible enough so that when you need DRL, then you can turn it on. If you don't need, it's off. That simple.

when every country around the world doesn't have this law, we can safely say it's unnecessary.

but then keep in mind.. i want to turn it off not because i want to violate this law, or to protest against it, it's just i like the way it looks without it. so i am done after this post no more arguing.

thanks cmf for da help!

If it matters so much, there is a fuse that controls the DRL's, just pull it, I don't even think you need the Helm's, just the user manual. Even better, get some new H1 bulbs that look more like the HID's.

That will not change the appearance. Those DRL's run off lower power, which regardless of what color bulb you put in it, will still show amber. Those bulbs you buy replacing the original H1's will only be the color at full power. Hope that makes sense.

woah wing wing. Usually I'm behind your back but this time. Sorry. I think it's a bit stereotyping that you quoted "asian ppl" cause it's not just "asian ppl" that likes JDM. And even if it's sooo JDM to have DRL off (which I don't think it's JDM) I don't think it'll look anymore JDM. It's something that no one can tell or even care. (sorry if this doesn't make sense cause I'm blazed right now). If you ask me if I've did any changes or mods to my DRLs. Yes, I've changed them to Yellow/Gold blubs cause it actaully serves a purpose when it's rainning hard or foggy. Not for JDM!!!

It may look "cool", but it's still illegal... not to mention it's unsafe in some situations.

Not understand YOU?? I for one don't understand you don't care for other's safety, which is in this case, the law anyway. Even during sunlight days it can happen that you don't see oncoming traffic all that well, and DRLs or your HID on just solves that. Don't lecture us on how WE don't understand you. YOU need to understand a few basic safety principles dude... :thumbsdn:

So when traffic lights were first introduced, I guess you'd have brought up this argument to say it was a dumb method too? Truth is, there's a beginning to everything, and this time Canada Transports have been pretty insightful about this. It's not because you safely say it's unnecessary, that it is so. And it's not because it's unnecessary by your sayings that it's not safer this way.

You have put yourself in a situation where you'd get flamed all by yourself. Don't whine we don't understand when you should be the one doing the thinking. When everyone disagrees with you, you're the one who needs to re-think your views, because chances are good you're wrong.

Right now you look just like the guy who hears on the radio an alert saying there's a crazy guy driving on the wrong side of the freeway, and he replies "Well there's a lot more than just one crazy driver doing this..."

wow calm down guys... please don't get back to the argument. as i said all i want to know is how to do it. look.. but i want to defend that i do know safety principles.. i go for the switch off of the light not because i want to be dangerous... it is not safe if and only if during certain situations (dawn, dust, night) i do not turn on HID ... but i do.. it's not safe if only if ppl forget to turn the light on as mentioned by fdl... it's not safe if and only if everyone doesn't have that light and not everyone knows when to turn lights on.

what i want to do is illegal, BUT it's safe because i know i won't forget i need to turn on the light when it's Needed. I understand why laws were made, and there must be purpose behind it.

And JeffTsx I did not say only asian ppl likes JDM. I didn't even bring up JDM. I said asian ppl are largely "influenced" by the way japanese cars look, and maybe laws there too.

please guys calm down...

Haha. You know what wing wing. Just do whatever you want dude cause everyone has differnet taste so some things you like or do some other might not agree with ya.

And don't get me wrong. I'm not trying to pick on you or anything. It's just that when I read the part where you quoted "asian ppl" I didn't like that. Eventhough yes I'm asian myself.

don't worry i ain't racist. i am just trying to claim the fact that the % of asians getting influenced by JDM is larger than % of north americans. the reason i believe is the north americans also get influenced by american market as well. that's why when you look onto the street, ppl doing these stuff are often asians. i am a big fan of japanese cars myself, and that's why i am getting my car to be as JDM look as possible with the euro-r grill, honda rebadging, DRL removal, etc..

i understand where you r coming from, and yeah i guess i will do whatever i want. i came here to post initially for the purpose to get some assistance. didn't know it would turn to such a debate. lol but my pleasure to have a chance to debate with major super moderators.
