i swear. some people need to read.

i never said that a modded MT tsx would be faster than a stock rsx-s.

nor did i ever say in this thread that a MT handles better.

see post 27, i agree with you.

yea, domn is so touchy.

i'm agreeing with you that a MT tsx might not be quicker than a rsx-s.

and the beginning of the post you are referring to - i was talkn about our great

sometimes i think he takes it too personal when we make AT jokes.

It's been a while since I really looked into torque converters so if anyone would like to correct any of my points, please feel free to do so.

Automatic transmissions use a torque converter instead of a clutch to link the engine to the transmission. A torque converter is basically a big fluid pump and the faster the engine spins, the harder it pumps. If the engine is spinning faster than the transmission, the torque converter can actually multiply the amount of torque being delivered.

Unfortunately having the transmission spinning at a slower speed than the engine isn't exactly efficient and this is usually why ATs get worse mileage than MTs. When the torque converter is spinning faster than the transmission, a great deal of heat is generated. Ideally the engine and transmission would be directly connected, which is where Lockup Torque Converters come into play.

The lockup torque converter has a clutch that will lock the transmission to the engine at high speeds. This greatly improves efficency but at the cost of some increased torque, especially at low speeds. Drag racers will often remove the lockup clutch to get the power back because they aren't concerned with heat or increased fuel consumption.

By the way, is there any aftermarket torque converter for our TSX?

But why drop thousands on something that won't really help you any. You're far better off investing in a supercharger or turbo.
