Question performance upgrade question

Hi All,

I have an '04 6 speed manual TSX whose lease is coming to an end. It has only 30,000 miles, and I am considering purchasing the car, however would like to upgrade the performance.

The car is stock, and I would like to:

1. Increase HP to at least 230 or higher

2. Increase or sharpen handling through a tire change/upgrade, however I want to maintain (or improve) its current wet/snow traction handling. I was considering going to lower profile 18s since the ride is currently cushy for me.

Any tips on what to do where to go or prices I expect? I am not mechanical whatsoever, so someone else would do the work.

Thank you!

I think you should go Comptech SC, and for suspension go for a-spec. Thats all you need.
Note: There is a lot of reading and searching you have to do before asking more questions.

You want to lower your TSX with 18's?

There's an old quote.... "Speed costs money. How fast do you want to go?"

Better handling and better snow traction? Aren't those like competing goals? Fortunately, I don't have to worry about getting separate snow tires down here! But, if I lived too far north (what is that, anywhere north of Georgia? ), I'd probably want to have two sets of tires/rims....

230HP?

Lower profile, as in the tire would have a lower profile....

You could follow my route...

1 -- Comptech S/C, Comptech Icebox, Comptech Cat Back, DC Header, Random Hi-Flow Cat

2 -- A-spec suspension, Comptech Rear Sway and Front Strut

230 whp?
Hytech header, stage 1 cams and custom reflash.

Buy 16" rims and get 205/60/16 snow tires

Buy 18" rims and 235/40/18 summer tires

A-spec suspension or Tein CS

well..I guess if you're referring to the crank hp, and you want 230, simply get some headers and injen CAI

and then the HONDATA ECU REFLASH

that should bump you up 29 hp according to their dyno
with some pulley, exhaust, and maybe some port and polish, should go up another 10 no problem...

I think all this put together is still cheaper than the SC, though I too want to supercharge my car badly, but it just doesn't seem like it's worth 4000 dollars

but again..I respect, and envy all y'all's SC tsx's

suspension wise, I just think A-SPEC doesn't cut it for me ride height wise, just get some TEIN coilovers, and with a rear sway bar, should be able to get the control u need

haha...I'm basically just spelling out my own dreams

GOd bless

Kevin- who hopes you don't get ripped off when you purchase your leased car

If you want good performance and handling in the snow, you brought the wrong car man. Although TSX is pretty good, there's better

Isn't the custom reflash still disable the stock gauge, A/C, VSA and or that stuff??

agreed, BMW XI, subie WRX or Legacy, Mistu (evos), Audi....all of them are AWD and most come with optional winter packages, snow tires etc. Same or better perfomance than the TSX, some cheaper, some a bit more in price. But if you are looking to upgrade specs from the get go, getting a vehicle that already comes with 230hp+ for the same price or cheaper with all wheel drive is a good option for those looking for snow or winter type performance. Down side, you wont get the cool TSX looks

Been talking to John for a while about this set-up. He does a lot of work with all the Grand Am TSX's which are pretty close to stock and therefore we can simply utilize a lot of their engine components. That being said, John has various stages available for our TSX's, but what needs to be done is someone needs to get the cams, header, ect put on their car out in Cali and then get it tuned so they (Hondata) can create a re-flash for the various set-ups. That's it. So here I sit in Michigan without the ability to get a sweet Hytech set-up because no-one (Shaang?) has stepped up to get all the parts tuned.

Hell, if I was out there I would at least give my TSX to John to put the parts on and get everything tuned so he can start selling packages to others.

Anyway, I believe that is the only thing holding every up to some awesome all-motor set-ups which should be very reliable and be simple bolt-ons....cams, springs, retainers, header, and maybe a high flow cat.
