Paranoid CAI question

I know of the possability of sucking in water with a CAI such as injen, so i'm kinda nervous about putting one on.

I was looking at the Comptech ice box and it doesn't look like its filter is close to the ground. It looks more like a ram air intake. Is the icebox safer when it comes to taking in water?

Thanks peeps

unless you drive through a flood that's 18" deep, the injen won't injest water.

no

I recently installed the Injen CAI and was actually surprised at how high up it was. Compared to my Iceman CAI I had on my '95 integra which had the air filter located behind where the fog lights would go, the Injen filter on the TSX is basically behind the headlights.

So unless you see a "puddle" that would be up to your headlights, I wouldn't be too worried. Plus with the Injen you can leave it in SRI mode if you really are paranoid during the summer/rain months and then change it to the CAI mode during non-rainy months.

Thanks guys

So the Iceboc isn't safer than the injen?

What about the Injen short ram compared to other short rams. Is the injen still better?

If you do go through a big puddle though, your fucked right?

The icebox will allow you to drive through 20 inches of water as opposed to the 18 of a conventional CAI.

The AEM/Injen/K&N in SRI all perform about the same.

puddle,

If you're driving along and your feet are getting wet inside the car, then you sould probably stop.

Don't go swimming with your TSX and you'll be fine.

no it's not like a short ram b/c it draws air from the fender like a cai

but the cai has the filter in the fender.

This is true whether you have an intake or not!

I checked the Injen and Comptech dyno's. I always here about how great Injen is but the number look better for the Comptech

Comptech
Power: 183.7
Torque: 157

Injen
Power: 169.7
Torque: 150.8

These are from the dyno's on the website. Am I missing something?

You have to compare their baseline. Injen is +12hp peak and Icebox is around +5.

I think I've asked this in some other threads before, but don't recall getting an answer... so here it goes again:
any low to mid range torque loss with either intake??

The comptech dyno shows that it's just about equal with stock until about 5000rpm. No real torque loss down low.

The Injen shows gains across the whole rev band but there's a slight dip below 2500rpm. My butt dyno could feel a little loss around that range but it pulls a lot harder from 4000+.

Thanks
One step at a time, I'd do Injen CAI first (still not right away) then Hondata reflash some time after...

Back to original posted question... I for one would not worry about water-locking with CAI. Wouldn't drive any car into a pond in the first place, right?

I was at the local auto shop and listening to a couple of teenagers argue about their RSX intakes. Basically they were arguing whether an Injen or a K&N CAI was better.

For the TSX, is there a big difference in CAI? I have the Injen but haven't gotten around to installing it. Does the K&N CAI preform the same as the Injen....I notice there is a significant price difference.

I don't think anyone has ever tried dynoing them back to back on the same car but they should perform equally. The designs are so similar that the performance difference should be negligible. I'd just go for whichever is cheapest.

Here is the dyno I got off K&N site.....looks low compared to the injen if I recall correctly.

So K&N makes 3 styles? Fixed CAI, SRI, and one that converts from CAI to SRI...I didn't know that.

So I think I've decided to go with the K&N, I looked around their website, but it seemed hard to find the specific part for the TSX. Does anyone know the Part number for the K&N intake?

they have a part search the shows exactly what they have for the TSX, but here are the numbers:

69-0025TB
69-0025TP
69-0025TR
69-0025TS

The last letter is for Blue, Polished, Red, Silver

I went with Red myself...looks great

I just tried the part search on K&N website, works good... but when I searched for 2005 TSX parts, only the air filter and oil filter showed up. The 4 intakes show up only when I searched for 2004 TSX parts. But they should also work for '05 TSX, right?

So what are you guys paying for the K&N CAI? I think I might have to go a buy one now cause some one locally is willing to pay more for the Injen than I actually paid for it....

Also, what do you think for my ABP.......blue or red?
