Ordered My New Wheels

I know this is a wheel thing but this should effect performance in a major way. I just bought some Team Dynamics Pro Race II. 17x7 +45mm....comming in at a slim 16.5lbs per wheel. I will be getting mine in Hypersilver. I will be using the stock tires until they bite the dust.

I will be mesuring 0-60, 0-90, 60-90 times with a stopwatch. Wont be an excact science but should give a good idea on how much wheel weight effects accelleration.

Those should look great with your white car.
Be sure to time acceleration BEFORE they're on too.

When do you get them?

Hopefully the wheels should be in Thursday or Friday. The wheels are $141.96 a wheel. $665 for mounting and balance

With 5lb savings per wheel cartest estimates .25 seconds improvement in 0-60 and .2 in the quarter mile.

should still be about the same. Remember that this is with only a 5lb saving sper wheel. You can easily knockout another 4-5 per wheel with some 225/45-17 pirellis or toyos.

a grand for wheels and tires is price but knocking that much time off acceleration numbers is astounding if they hold true with estimations.

That 1/4 mile improvement can't be right. You would have to top out under 60mph in the 1/4 for that to be right.

i'll take some screenshots when i get home. Initial guess it that it's requiring an extra shift because of th ehigher traps.

Those are nice but I would have bought 18s
17s would look smaller than stock... they would look almost too small... remember they have lip

Cartest simulation runs. First is stock wheel weight. Second is with 5lbs off per wheel. This is all run with the stock torque curve which i input.

I *bought* it...gasp! It's definitely worth it for someone that likes to tinker like myself.

#1) Wheels pictured are 15" wheels.

#2) Didnt want the ride quality to worsen from the smaller profile tires

#3) If I want to go to 18" wheels I do have 30 days to decide to change the rim.

Tink....you know how different the torque curve is for the Injen right? I bet if you use my curve the 0-60 number drops to 6.8 and the 1/4 mile to 14.9-15.0

also jab: if you could weight one of the stock wheels without tire that would be fantastic. Finally we could put to rest the uncertainty of whetere it was 21 or 23 lbs or somewhere in the middle.

Wheels look good...so I think. The car feels alot better as far as acceleration goes. in 6th at 60 I could stomp the gas and it jumps to 70 in a few ticks instead of alot of ticks.

I saw your wheels on a Jetta in Hyper-Silver (I hate the stupid Hyper-names now....it'll be Hyper-XP soon.).

Anyways, looked good.

Still trying to figure out whether or not I really like the wheels on the car. It feels much faster...braking is improved.

awesome news jab. I cannot wait to get the rotas now assuming the dealer has them. Any idea on teh weight of the stock wheel?
Here's a pic of the ones i'm going with.

The best news is there are equal (or greater) benefits to be had by switching to some toyos or pzero neros as the weight is at the farthest point from the axis.

tinky, could you run cartest with 7200rpm or 7300rpm shift? or you don't have enough data?

yeah absolutely - I'll input the injen dyno here in a minute and run some numbers. They definitely are improved with reving it up to the fuel cutoff...figure 7300rpm sine we dont' want to be banging into the limiter.

I lied If work is going to be as boring as it seems today I'll do it. Inputting dyno numbers of a dyno chart is tedious

lalala i can't hear you...haha. Yeah i'm being lazy. I ran a couple tests with the default torque curve and it gained .2x tenths by running it up to 7300 rpm in 0-60(I think it misses an extra shift) and .1 in the 1/4. I'll input a cai dyno at some point....
