New owner of an '04 TSX. Need HP upgrades!

I just bought an '04 TSX MT. I was looking 4 some insight on upgrading the engines HP. All i can say is thank god i did buy the manual. LOL! It seems that 1&2 gear is pretty much a dog but after u hit 3rd it moves pretty good. Whats the basic simple bolt on parts that i can upgrade the horse power, i'm not looking to do any engine work just yet. Any help would b great!

You are in luck. Them k series engines are easily mod-able. you'd be surprised what kind of impact you can make with simple bolt ons.

I'd say your best 1000 dollars should be spent on an Intake and Hondata Reflash. right there alone you'll be pretty impressed with your results. From there on.. get a high flow cat, maybe an exhaust.

I have been reading some posts about the reflash, sounds like a pretty good step in the right direction. I'm actually used 2 building older V8's, so all these new electronic upgrades r pretty new 2 me. As far as the bolt ons i know my way around a car pretty good so i have no trouble there, its just the computer stuff. As far as the reflash goes i've just heard people talking about it but i haven't heard any as of yet actually do it and tell the difference in the performance first hand.

Exhaust would be among the LAST things I'd do if I wanted HP. If I wanted the sound, sure, but on a HP/$ ratio, the exhaust for this car is among the worst (ratio-wise). The stock exhaust is quite good and flows well.

As for HP mods, intake, header, Hondata, underdrive pulleys, high-flow cat, and then stuff like intake manifold gaskets, TB spacers, and then maybe an exhaust system.

For the past few hours i've been reading up on the different header brands. Looks like the DC ones blow, i have only seen a few with the OBX ones but nothing bad with them, Comptech seems 2 b the best so far, as far as the spacer i have seen a few of the P2R ones and people seems to all like them. I think I might go with the HPS Dyno short style intake, i've read about the long style sucking up water, not into replacing bent valves or rods just yet. I've also seen a few things about the HONDATA intake manifold gasket. Any1 have any info on these?

depends on how much money your actually trying to spend.. modding the TSX can get pretty expensive.. Alot of quality parts are made in japan so if your a JDM whore then your gonna have to pay to play. You can get the Injen Cold Air Intake.. You can use that as a short ram as well.. so you get 2 for the price of one! Now comptechs header is pretty good.. DC is garbage! But if your looking for more power you can go either Hytech/Toda or Maxim Works.. they all make very nice quality headers that make power. Those 3 will run you some money though.. from $1200 to i think $1400 depending on which one you choose. How i would do it is.. get an Intake and pick a header.. after that get the reflash and start modding from there. Good Luck

I have a DC version 1 and am very pelased with it. Reinforced the problem area with 3 or 4 tack welds ($30 cash) and it's been strong for well over a year.

The Comptech header can produce rattling problems -- run a search.

But to go and say DC headers are garbage is unfair - they're cheaper than Comptech, provide great gains, and with a minimal $ amount to prevent future breaking of the flexpipe connection, they are reliable.

Not to be picking on the DC brand but if i buy something new i would expect not 2 have 2 weld or customize anything. But i really can't c spending 1300 on a header with gains of only about 5-7 HP. But then agian i'm also used 2 building older V8's so i really don't have any room 2 talk as of yet . Thanx 4 all the info guys I'll start the pics of the TSX now and take new ones as i progress. I do have a ? about the DC header is that really all the header needs is either a few weld spots or just all around rewelding. cause if so i'll just have one of the guys in my shop do it 4 me. Please let me know. THANX!

Run a search to find some pics, I believe posted by JTso, that show the exact areas to have spot-welded.

I'm going 2, JTso has done most of all the bolt on mods with great pics and very good step by step directions. As far as the internals i'm going 2 start that one, plus i'm pretty good friends with a machine shop so the custom head work and block work is going 2 b at a discounted price. The only problem i have so far is I'm used 2 building older V8's so all this
"fuel management" upgraded computer stuff I'm going 2 have 2 get used 2. I actually sold my 1971 olds 442 to buy this car (i know i went from 500hp 2 200hp) but its all good. I wanted something new. I also bought my wife a 2000 Honda Accord, and i'm going 2 start on that one 4 her. I'll have 2 join another forum 4 her car. LOL. I'll keep u guys posted. I'm still lookin 4 a damn used CAI! It seems nobody has any used ones layin around. Not lookin 2 spent $250 on a new one. Let me know if anybody has one. Thanx again guys 4 all ur help!
