Lower mesh grill installed
Hi all,
Made and installed this myself. Cost about $2.00 in parts and 1 hour to cut, put together and attach by zip ties. It's rock solid and won't come off unless cut off.
Let me know if you feel this one or not. I'm curious for opinions.

Hmm. Good question. Don't know what it would take to do the same thing to the upper grill. It would probably take away from the chrome emblem and detail tho.

I made it myself. I can try to make some kind of instructions, but here's some thing for now.
I went to Home Depot and bought a rain gutter guard. It's a galvanized metal piece about 3' by 6". It's made ot fit over your rain gutters to stop leaves from getting in. I used a piece of long tissue paper ( the kind they wrap gifts up with to keep it from breaking) to trace the outline of the opening first. Then drew the pattern onto the rain gutter gaurd. I used some metal snips to cut the pattern out. making sure that it was just a little short of the actual opening to allow for the next step.
I then went to Pep Boys (or any automotive store) and bought the black rubber door guard molding (it's the stuff that fits on the edge of a door running vertically up the edge to protect the door from scratches when you open it) in a box of like 10' or so. It was the kind that has glue in a channel to keep it attached to your door edge. I guess any color will do, but the black matches the rest of my trim. They also have chrome and other colors, which would be interesting to see.
Since this door guard trim has glue in the inside channel, I simply pressed it on to the grill around the out side boarder. I had to nip 'V' shaped cuts into the trim as I went around the grill so it cound make the tight corner at the top left and right angles. This will make the grill look cleaner and also wont scratch the paint or black plastic when you install it. Then just take a couple of plastic zip ties (the kind that loops back into itself to lock and will not back out again) and attach them at the ends of the grill, wrapping it behind the lower opening's black grill struts.
There is no drilling needed. I simply attached one end zip tie until it was barely zipped on, then went to the other side. This is where small, long fingers would really come in handy. It was tricky to get the other side's zip tie on, but it did. Once both ties are attached, use a pair of pliers to pull the zip ties tight to the black original grill.
That's pretty much it. I might take some photos and draw on them to show where, how stuff.

You wont need to remove the bumper to do this.

NOTE: I forgot about the bolt holes for the front license plate bracket. i believe my grill covers over these holes now. If you must use it, you might have to allow for this by cutting holes in the mess grill. I think it might be easier to make the grill then align it to your car. Then draw on to the grill with a marker where you need to trim it up.

I bought mine from stewie, I was not all crazy about it cuz I did know what quality it would be like to work with. Sharp too... I was wondering about it cutting into the bumper, well its only a temporary fix till i can redo everything correctly, or find better mesh
Oh I have to find someway to put on the license plate...

Both meshes look great! I just did mine on my body kit and the parts from Home Depot for $7. The mesh is small and square instead of diamond. But the thing that sucks about adding mesh to the bottom is you pick up everything down there from twigs to pine needles to anything.

Hmm, didn't think of that, but did get a leaf in there the other day.
Fog light area does look goo too. I was looking into getting hte fog lights and installing them myself (ugh), so not sure if I'll cover that area.
Thanks for the honest reviews. I really dont want to hear flattery so much as your real opinions.

Looking good! Looks factory installed! I wonder what it will look like with the OEM fogs?
IMO, it goes better with the OEM front lip spoiler:
w/ lip spoiler
w/o lip spoiler

Yea im nto to crazy about the color or cheapness of it now, its jsut to prevent getting birds in my air dam...
3 so far... they get sucked in when ever birds are near my car... in the highway they somehow end up in the airdam even if the opening is so small

wow! I like the grill behind the front emblem. I'm not sure if it will look just like that, but I may have to try it.
Great job on the photo-chop by the way.

Okay, I've got new mesh and want to try the top grill look. I think the notch out for opening the hood might make this look funny. Since the mesh cost me $1.29 at Home Depot, it's really only my time that I waste on this, so why not. heheh

Great! Cant wait to see them. I would think that black would make it soo dark that you wouldnt see the mesh, thus defeating the reason for adding it in the first place. I dont know. Liek to see both on the same car ho.
I opened up my hood and looked around by the top of the grill. It looks like you can take off the top part with those push-pin thingies (it's the technical name, I know.) and put both upper and lower grrill on from behind. I might try it on the top one just to see how it looks before cutting up the mesh.
I'll post picks too.

As a matter of fact, I had a black grille on my CGP and just put in a new silver one this weekend. The black is more subtle and looks a little more OEM. I'm trying to decide whether to keep the silver or not; it stands out more. I'll take a picture tonight of my new silver grille and post it with a picture of my old black one. I also bought a file before I did my second grille and filed the edges of the mesh down. I imagine that rough edges will be a problem with any mesh, but the filing pretty much eliminated the problem of potential scratches.
