JTso's Custom Engine Torque Damper Setup (ETD)

I've been working on this for awhile from design, measurement to the final hand-made product. I offered Ingalls assistance in producing the product but they don't seem very interested. So, I think this is the first ETD for the CL9.

The setup is designed to be sturdy and must clear everything including brake lines, ABS motor, PS hose, AC lines, and strut bar.

I would love to make it into production and make some $$.

I set the ETD to the middle setting just to try it out and the improvement is freaking incredible and unbelievable! Zero in-cabin vibration and zero wheel hops during hard launches! However, the shock tower bracket took some punishment and bent slightly (I will post pic later). The much stronger engine mount bracket held up just fine. Time for version 2.

So would this mod be similar to the 'ol "Energy Suspension engine mount bushing inserts" for most non-hydraulic mounted motors? With the exception that <somehow> no vibrations are transferred back to the cabin at idle?

How does this work and just ballpark, what would the cost be? I LOVED my energy suspension engine mount inserts in my 1991 Teg -- Really nice on hard launches.

Any idea if that design would work with the OEM strut bar? I see you have aftermarket.

Looks great. Too bad you can't combine it with the use of a Cusco Type-OS STB. You're using the nuts for the 3 spots needed to mount it. I used the Comptech STB for the 2004 TSX, but now have the Cusco bar on the 2006. I guess I don't see the ETD in my future.

Not to be a downer. You've done well for us, Johnny.

Edit: In a second late compared to the above post.

I have also used the ES motor mount inserts on my Civic and Prelude. There is absolutely no comparison between the ES and ETD. The ES bushing helped a little but it didn't completely eliminate wheel hops and it produced noticeable cabin vibrations.

Here is the damaged shock tower bracket. I was hoping it will withstand the engine torque but it didn't. Since it has such small area for the mounting, it needs to be thicker or made out of stronger material.

That's why I decided to make v2 out of 1/4" steel plates just in case.

The ES bushings make everything rattle like crazy, especially when you have the AC on. Had em in the RSX. Never again. The ETD was the way to go if you want to kill wheel hop.

Thanks guys! I think this is a good working design as long as stronger material is used. I'm going to put together v2 tomorrow and see how that holds up.

if v2 still bends you could add some rigidity to the upper bracket like you did in the lower:

I know it's not a masterpiece but I figured this was better than me trying to type it out

Somone has been working on their welding skills. Looks good Johnny! Please take note of all the JDM whore requests for the Cusco FSTB version. Mabe in the future even we will get the "JTso ETD v3" made for the Cusco. :dyno:

Hey Johnny have you been to Axiom motorsports down in Lakewood? They have an AWD Dyno down there. www.axiom-power.com Just another autosports shop I found recently. Very cool guys. That's where Moaka Dynos that sweet 700+hp Supra he always drives to the meets up here.

I got the damper off ebay - universal 305-319mm.

Thanks for the suggestion. I most likely will add a reinforce rib.

I have a "G-tech" time of 14.7 but I don't have any track time yet. I would like to though.

Anything is possible. I might be able to make a bracket for the Cusco bar if I can see how it fits.

I haven't been to Axiom yet. It's kind of far from my house, but I will check it out if I'm in the area.

Wow... I'm from Australia and I would buy one if you started making this torque damper for sale. Unfortunately over here, most of us have to use Cusco strut bars as they are about $100 cheaper than the Comptech...

cool...14.7.....I bet our car can push to 14.2-14.5 or something

I mean Celica GT-S's NA record is 13.7 (with no kit and like parts of interior tearing out
i think that's retarded lol)....
14.5 sounds good with TSX ....

you are our only hope.....go run some 1/4 mile

Hey JTso~

Good effort~! The ETD looks strong and promising. Have you try the v2 yet? How does it compare w/ v1. And how much do you plan to sell this for??? I'm interest~!

damn skippy!

Looks much stronger JTso. Your rib placement is much better than what I suggested. That piece is bracing at the same angle where v1 bent.

I seriously doubt that'll bend now. If it does, you've modded one monsterous 4 banger.

If there is a place to duplicate all the bracket pieces, I can weld them up in no time.
