If you did that, I dont think you would get more than 10-15hp without a Kpro, I dont think the hondata reflash is mapped for a cam, I thought it was just I/H/E????

Have you though about getting a P/P job instead? Its about the same price? Why go with a cam first? I am just curious as I am researching what to do for my next Mod and am not sure what I want to do. My only requirment is that is be under or around 1k in price. Hondata seems the logical choice but I could also wait and get a Port/Polish prior to hondadata.
What do you see as the selling point for doing a CAM?

A P/P would be the smarter choice by far.

An RSX-S with IPS-K2 cams/I/H/E/hondata can do 230whp (~264 crank). MmmotorNutz on Club RSX is running that setup.

I have a hard time buying that as you are saying that he achived a 54hp gain over stock. Which is the equivelent of a mild Supercharger or turbo. The claimed numbers are beyond what anyone on the RSX board achived with F/I unless they bumped the boost to around 9-10psi.
Agian, I am not saying it aint possible but I would want to see a dyno as evan performance CAMS on a 350Z only nets about a 15hp gain max and that is at redline.

I can believe that for a I/H/E and Hondata plus Cams, not just for cams themselves. I saw an RSX w/ intake, Toda cams, Toda reflash do 215 to the wheels, and the hondata k-pro and race header could get it up much more.

its true. there are few different cam kits for the rsx that puts out some serious power. here is the dyno for the toda engine racing kit. its basically toda racing cams, I/H/E, and reflash. gains you about 57.5 whp and 36.8 ft/lb. If you want to read up more just go to clubrsx and look up IPS, toda, and cowder. =D

I think Toda uses Hondata for their reflash.

Good God I bet that engine idles ruff. Ok I am wrong, I would never have guess you could get so much from a Cam/Reflash alone. I never came close to this in my 00 Accord or my buddys 00 Prelude. Since this is 2400 without install I still think the Comptech would be a better route as it would not void your warintee.
This is very impressive though.

Cams are great for all out performance but then you have to upgrade alot of other things in the engine as well. The superchager is gonna be cheaper and less problematic. But I am still aiming for turbo.

I don't see why people have engine mods in mind if they worry about factory warranties.
If you want to do serious work to your car, then you just need to let the warranty go. That's why we all bought a car powered by Honda, cause we know the reliability of the engine, no matter how many mods you add. So long as you do it the right way, you should be golden.

Trust me, I totaly agree, but for most they only get as far as I/H/E. When I bought my accord I void the warranties the next day. What I was trying to say is that you can gain massive amounts of power (Comptech SC) but still have a warrantie.
I fully plan on modding the crap out of this car but I would still like some level of reliability.
Heck you could do my all motor setup for 16k and drive the car for 15min and the engine could commit suicide

Personally I believe that there are some marketing involved behind Hondata reflash/parts combo. As mentioned earlier by one of the member on this board that parts are being given to Hondata for free to tune with, I think that is because Comptech know that flashes are the next big thing for now so they decided to give parts to Hondata to play with for free (or even pay Hondata to uses Comptech parts). Since Hondata will be optimized for Comptech part, ppl who are going to get flashes will ended up buying Comptech to complete the package.
As far as cams it is one of the major mod in order gives your car highest gain (we're talking about naturally aspirated). In the near future I believe that the new flash from Hondata will be IPS cams combo, since they are closely working together (according to IPS site).

As for TODA they've been making crazy naturally aspirated engine, as far as their flashes they uses Hondata but has been maximized for their cams.

As far as upgrading cams you don't actually need new retainer/spring valves, most ppl get it all done so that they don't have to redo it in the end. The reason i'm saying this is because higher rate of spring valve will only benefit if you're planing on running your engine at higher RPMs to avoid valve float and cause your piston to hit the valve at TDC. The only benefit I see is that if your engine has been installed with a VERY AGGRESSIVE cam profile (giving same max RPM) you might need a higher rate valve spring during swith over between high and mid profile. With a Ti retainer the benefits you're getting is lighter/stronger components.

As far as port polish in modern engines it won't do much with stock ones. It only improves flow of intake and exhaust gas, and since your lift and duration are still the same better flow won't do much. Also engines these days have a pretty decent port flow because of technology that is being introduce such as computer controlled CNC.
