Installing 12" led tubes

Hey guys,

I recently bought 2 12" blue led tubes to hook up under the steering wheel and the glove box to light up the floor mats; however, I was wondering is there a way or DIY thread to hook the wires to the same wires as the headlights so that the blue leds would turn on when i turn on the headlights? I've tried looking everywhere but I can't find anybody with the same situation.

I was thinking of doing the same thing but don't want to by the LEDs if I don't know how to install them. Would the blue led look better with the all season weather mats or the stock floor mats.

there is a user on the forum who installed LEDs and wired them using the wire from the center console

Red_TSX: IMO they would look good with all weather floor mats, especially when they got armor-all applied to them

Thanks that sounds like a good idea. I just hope some one explains how to do it. (I am not good with wires lol) I am also expecting the LED dome lights soon.

That little totally useless light inside the console storage box - I used that.
I just pull it out.
You got 12V and ground wires right there and I spliced into those wires - voila ! on at a flip of the light switch.

just strip the +/- wires and "Quik Konnectors" from WalMart - done.

what little green one ?
Just pull out the bin, you'll see the light on the top..you'll know what to do next if you know how to flush the toilet.
Don't bother taking the bulb out, just cut at the base of the socket to expose the wire.

Just put a switch somewhere in the line to break the circuit if you don't want it.

Can't read your mind on what you know/don't know -
re-READ post #6, & #8 and if you still are clueless, you should indicate exactly
what you don't get

I have no pics sorry. Search and you will find some pics.

To remove the bin:
- Take out the rubber mat on the inside bottom of bin.
- There are 2 holes on the bin bottom, insert something to use as pull "handle" (I use bamboo chopsticks)
- Pull

>> make the wire longer ?
solder or connectors
(generic questions like this should be in Audio/Video)

shouldn't have said accessory, just the fuse box. the OP doesn't know how to remove the bin and doesn't know how to tap or extend a wire, at least it provides some kind of info if he reads it and looks at the pics

Ok. So here's a picture of the wires

The wires came connected to an adapter to connect to the 12v outlet.

I've removed the bin...so...now what?

hehe...the led tubes are in the background of the picture. I'm attaching them in my car by using velcro. You could also use double-sided tape.

I found this in another thread...to remove the bin.

1. Open up the lid to the trash tray/cig. lighter socket.

2. Pull out the rubber mat in the storage tray.

3. With the key in the ignition, (to unlock the trans from P) set the parking prake, and pull the transmission knob all the way back to D3.

4. Put each fore finger between the trash tray lid and the bottom of the storage
tray so that you can put your thumbs inside the bottom of the tray.

5. Gently, but firmly, pull the tray out STRAIGHT and SLOWLY.

all right. so you goin to strip the red and black wires to the light and just rap the LED wires around them and wrap with electrical tape?

Well what I thought u had to do was take on negative from each led tube and one positive from each and connect it to the little green light wires by stripping those and rape with tape (electric)

Did that help?

hey Red_TSX
i think i did what you want to do. But i dunno if i did it the right way or not. Well, it works.
Basically i just pulled out the center console (the little drawer under ur headunit). U can actually see there is a tiny blue led light installed to light up the drawer when you turn on your headlight. So What i did is cut the led wires off. Connect the red wires and ground the black wires of the light tubes to the cable which originally connects to the led light bulb. That's it. hope it helps
