Installation of Acura Racing Pedals
#162
I got these pedals in earlier this week and I must say these are the nicest looking pedals I have ever seen. They match the black/metal interior perfectly.
I got an AT set and installed the dead pedal in about 15 minutes. It probably would take less time if I did it again but I was being very careful.
I had trouble getting the gas pedal off despite the instructions and owning the Helm manual so I eventually gave up. It's been pretty cold out in New England this week. I went out today and it came out first time. It was still pretty tricky to get the washer and nut on the back of the bolts so what I ended up doing was using a little elmer's glue to glue the washer and nut together. Once they dried I put them into the end of a socket and was able to screw them on pretty quickly. Total time on gas pedal: about a half hour.
The brake pedal on the AT is tricky as others have mentioned. The rubber inserts dip into the center. I took some 3M molding tape and tried to flush out the center. I don't know if the 2006 brake pedal is different from the 04-05, but I also have these indentations on the top and bottom. So I also tried to fill those in but what I ended up with was a big mess of tape all over my pedal and I couldn't make it flat enough to meet up perfectly over the surface of the new pedal. I took all the tape off to start from scratch and realized that if you put the OEM rubber cover back on, the new pedal fits perfectly on there. So I think tonight I have going to drill through the OEM cover and everything and install like that. The bolts that came with it seem just long enough to make it through and put the washer and nut on the end, but we'll see. In the Helm manual it mentions a way to adjust the brake pedal height so I'm thinking if all this stuff it too "thick" and makes the pedal too high I can always adjust it lower.
Just my experience with the AT, the pedals are sharp looking and it is definitely worth the time to install it right.

Holy hanna! That was some bit of work. It took me 4 hours to get those peddles in. The dead peddle had to be screwed in over top of the OEM, as the rubber inserts were pushing thru. I had to go pick up #8x2" SS screws for that.
The brake peddle had to be shimed up as the metal brake pad has recesses too as was mentioned earlier. Did it with 3m tape like another poster.
Also, the gas peddle's screws could be longer. They were just short enough to make it difficult to get the washer and nut up into the recess to screw them on! heheh No problem getting the gas peddle lose liek some others did.
Looks good now tho. Pics would just look the same as the others so I'm not posting them up.

Hwey Duke, How'd that go? I was going to put the gas peddle back on, but then just used the 3m tape trick and it proped the peddle up enough to do it.
One after thought. Maybe the brake and dead peddle could have their own thin metal shim, backing the rubber pad? It would keep ppl from having to mod this to work.
