Injen Intake and some questions

It seems like the Injen intake gets the most kudos in this forum, so i have decided to get it. I am concerned about the noise on the intake, as many of my friends with intakes and even some friends with g35s have been cited by police for the noise. Any suggestions?

For all you so-cali tsxers, I heard there is a new law for streetracing, if you are caught and are going over a certain speed limit, your car will get impounded and crushed, no questions asked.

1) You won't hear the intake unless you're revving with the throttle wide open which you probably shouldn't be doing near cops. Even then I don't think it's loud enough for a sound violation.

2) Street racing =

I feel ya...with my tinted windows and 19 inchers, definitely getting the cops something to look at.

the other day, i was pulling out of the mall and a cop saw my radar detector....dirtiest look i ever got in my life.

btw...im not familiar with the term slammed, i know it has to do with suspension, but what exactly is it?

Like it's "slammed" to the ground. Basically as low as it will go. Also derogatorily called "speed bump scrapers" or if they have an ugly front body kit "snowplows".

yes.. although i would consider mine slammed, i dont think mine would be considered a "speed bump scraper" or atleast i hope not .. maybe slammed is a bit too much then.. ill say "dropped"... i think that would be more appropriate eh?

Its not that loud. Only when you go WFO.

Any references to this crush your car law? I only heard that they upped the fine to $1000 going over 100mph.

Kinda offtopic, but why do intakes change the engine sound so markedly? Exhaust system mods are obvious, but I don't get the intake thing.

The OEM intake has a silencer on it which makes it a lot quieter but is also much more restrictive. 90% of the gains from an aftermarket intake come from removing the silencer (a.k.a. resonator).

If you are caught street racing here, it is worth 6 points on your insurance.

1 ticket for street racing=6 speeding tickets=3 at-fault accidents.

Take it to the track.

Most of the "engine noise" you hear is induction howl, the sound of air moving throuh the various pipes, filters, plenums, and runners. Change the shape of that stuff (intake) and you change the sound. Pretty drastically in some cases.

Ah, that makes sense. It also explains why the Icebox results in appreciable power gains when it still looks so much like the stock intake, from the outside.
