Icebox vs K&N CAI

Can someone explain to me the difference between the Comptech Icebox and other cold air intakes such as the K&N Typhoon? Do they have the same performance gains? Is one better than the other? I noticed Hondata supports the Icebox and there are performance losses with CAI. Why is this?

for my knowledge, i knew that:

@ at low RPM around idle to 30K, the ice box will retain most of the HP, but with the K&N Typhoon Cai, you actually loss like 2 hp.

@ at high RPM, there will be gain from both intake system, but the K&N Typhoon CAI will gain a little bit more than the ice box do.......

kinda have an idea why the CAI loss Hp at low rpm, but not sure so i prefer not to say it........do anyone know??

The article is for integra's but I think it applies to the TSX as well. To me, the Icebox is the best of both the short ram and cold air worlds.....cold air O2 density with short ram responsiveness.

IMO, the Comptech is better suited for 5AT and either the Injen or K&N setup for 6MT.

My logic is based off the better sound and more high RPM power availability for the 6MT drivers since the ratios will land you in higher RPMs during each upshift. This negates any of the low-end advantage of the Icebox.

On the other hand, 5AT owners might want a more stock-sounding intake. The Comptech fits the bill nicely in that regard.

I read through some of these posts from the earlier threads and they are definatley informative. One question though. I have an '06 6MT which comes with fog lights standard. I noticed there was a lot of talk about drilling out the fog light cover. Will I see any real benefit from the intake with fog lights? Just FYI, I do plan on getting the Hondata reflesh (who recommend using the Comptech).

I have the Comptech Icebox on my 6MT with the K&N drop in filter modded to work. I like it a lot. No grunting under WOT, but then again, I have the Comptech I/E with RT cat too, so I'm not gonna hear a lot anyway.

Let me answer it this way. The fog lights on your 06 will have almost no effect on the performance of the Icebox. As you mentioned, some people drilled out their foglight cover. But, it is very debatable whether that makes any real difference in performance because its hard to say what type of a ram air effect the drilled out cover provides.

It was hard for me to feel the differnce in acceleration between the Icebox and the stock intake. The big difference for me was in throttle response (how quickly the engine responds to throttle input) and I don't believe whether you drill out your foglight cover or not makes much difference in that respect.

How and what did you do to the filter?

Nothing. I followed jlukja's DIY on using weatherstrip to seal the Icebox lid around the K&N since the K&N literally drops in and the foam filter from Comptech sits on top.

Ohhhh. I thought you modded the filter itself.

Nothing against the foam filter at all, I just had the K&N first on my resonatorless setup and liked it. Which means I do have a foam filter if someone wants to purchase it. I posted something a while ago in the Black Market section.

The credit should go to minkl81. Here is his thread:https://acurazine.com/forums/showthread.php?t=25198 I diverged from those DYI only in that I used one long piece of weatherstrip instead of multiple shorter pieces.
