I want an Intake but short-ram or CAI?

Does anybody have suggestions? Looking thru the threads, I think it's a given that Injen gave the best gains but should I get the SR or the CAI?

I'm new to this stuff so any help would be greatly appreciated..

CAI, you can convert it to a SR if/when you want to. =o)

I'd also like to know. What's the difference in performance gains between the two? I'm guessing the SRI isn't as effective?

I"m guessing SRI isn't as effective....but with CAI, you have worry about rain, dirt etc etc

both the injen and k&n are CAI and SRI. SRI is a little louder (good or bad) but is sucking in warm air. CAI can hydro-lock, but doesnt seem to be a big problem

Rain is not an issue. So long as you don't completely submerge the filter (i.e. drive through 18" of water) you'll be OK. I'm not sure about dust and dirt however. The pickup location is the same as the factory piece so I can't really see it being too much of a problem.

Other than that, SRI is a louder than CAI and doesn't quite produce the same horsepower. Maybe a 3-5hp loss.

The factory pick up location may seem to be right behind the fog cover. But it actually routes back inside the engine compartment and ends up in front of the battery. So it sucks in hot air.

well coming from engineering...

twist and turns in pipes = bad for air flow

I think by simply removing all that krap, you'd be able to increase hp....I think I am going to get a CAI =)

That's what I did. It goes from a 3" capped funnel to a 2" down pipe, into a 1.5" resonantor, back out via a 1.5" into a 2" to the aibox with all sorts of obstructions to a 3" throttle body. WTF?

Now it's a 3" throttle body pipe all the way to a K&N cone filter. Done.

From my experiences, the CAI is the best way to go... unless you don't want to rip out your whole old intake(remove bumper, etc)... IMO the SRI usually sounds too raspy, and doesn't give the air much time to gain velocity...

higher velocity = better air charge. =o)

You don't neccesary have to take off your bumper. You can also go with the wheel removal method. But for me I went with the bumper removal and it feels a lil' easier than removing the wheel. However when you're removing your bumper *becareful* not to mess up those plastic screws. I think I messed up 3 of mine, but in the end I found out that instead of prying it upwards you can just stick a flat head in the screw and twist your wrist left and right and it'll pop right out!
