Question I/H/E, the quietest combo

Hello all.

With price being of no factor, what is the absoulte quietest intake, header and
exhaust I could purchase for the TSX?

I'm not finding this question fully answered in lots of previous searches.

My thoughts are Mugen. Intake to tips, Mugen.

And as for tone:

Deep.

As low as possible, low and quiet, nothing raspy, nothing high pitched, nothing loud.

Making the stock setup quieter is the ultimate goal. Along with upping performance
a slight amount and adding some nice looking stuff.

So order of importance:

1. quiet
2. low (deep) tone
3. good looks
4. performance
5. price

Price matters of course some, but it's at the bottom of my list. I'd rather just wait
a bit longer if I have to for whatever it is I want.

Yes, a bit off from the norm. I did not buy a TSX for it to be super fast or sound
like a super fast or ricer car. I didn't buy it for power, and I don't track it. I focus
on overall good looks and great handling, ride comfort/enjoyment. So please don't
bother flaming me about not craving more horsepower, because I could care less
about that. Thanks.
In any case all comments welcome.

Honestly, any mods you make to the exhaust system are going to increase volume. With your goals in mind, I'd say Mugen intake and header would make sense for you, but Comptech IceBox and Comptech Header would get the same job done for a lot less money.

As for exhaust, I'd go Tanabe Medallion Touring exhaust. 93DB rated, it's definitely the quietest catback for the TSX. I love mine to death.

With the above said - if you put on a RT cat or a testpipe, all my advice goes out the window, because those parts will definitely increase noise and rasp in your exhaust note. My car got a ton louder once I put that thing on last fall.

You may want to do intake/header/cat and leave your OEM exhaust on and just put some S2K tips on it or something, that will get you the least noise increase. No exhausts really help our performance - it's purely an aesthetics and sound thing with the TSX.

MMsTSX, tanabe would be the way to go as already suggested. i'd probably recommend the comptech icebox for intake because it shouldn't get as loud as a regular cai. as for the header, i'd search for sound clips on youtube. i can see that you now have extensive plans for your ride, good luck and happy modding

I have the CT Icebox and it sounds almost stock unless you're at WOT and even then its not as high pitched or loud as the Injen. I don't think an aftermarket header makes much of a difference noisewise, most of the volume difference will come from an aftermarket exhaust.

hmmm...okay.

so so far I've gathered to get the Mugen intake.
I'll pass on the comptech one, the Mugen is similar, I'll take that.

anyone with a full mugen exhaust care to comment on it's loudness and pitch
vs. the stock exhaust?

I may just take some of the advice here and leave stock exhaust stuff as is.
I'll take the extra money and make the interior that much nicer.

Thanks for all the feedback so far.

^^can't comment, on the mugen exhaust since I don't have it, but usually mugen never sounds loud or obnoxious, but distinctive.

My advice is stick with a closed airbox type intake (mugen or comptech), get the header you like or can afford, get a hi-flow cat, and stick with the stock exhaust, and save yourself about $800. The sound of the intake might be enough for you, if you are like me, and you'll definitely feel the gains of just the I/H/C.

It won't sound completely stock, especially when you jump on it, so you might be satisfied.

Tanabe exhaust are very stock like and quiet. However, if you don't like loud/annoying noise, definitely skip the aftermarket exhaust. It might sounds cool @ local, but if you are going on for a trip, say driving @ 70-80mph constantly, the exhaust will give you some drooling sound, can't avoid it.

Can you explain why you want to spend the extra couple of hundred $ on the Mugen intake over the Icebox?....just out of curiousity.
Comptech is a well known company and makes excellent parts. I dont see why you would want to spend the extra money for the same thing? To me, it doesnt make any sense.
Unless, you wanted to fully mugenize your car or were going for a theme. Idk.

I'm sure MMsTSX does know the price differences b/w Mugen and Comptech; if I had that extra cash, I will get the Mugen airbox too, the CF Mugen box is just toooooo pimp.

yeah, I'm fully aware of the crazy $1200 price on the Mugen intake.
or maybe $1086 if I'm lucky...

I like the fit and finish of the Mugen.
The look and the prestige carry a heavy price tag, for sure.
I'm a sucker though for Mugen, so I'm going with that.

I want to put the highest quality stuff I can afford in for mods.
I kinda committed when I bought the Mugen spark plug cover.
So I'm going to keep the Mugen theme.

Probably won't put any Mugen exterior stuff on, not until I get bored with the
car that is. For a good while though, the body will probably stay stock.
And if I do get bored it'll go the way of the 06-08 Mugen Full Bumper kit.

I know it's kinda snobby, but oh well. I don't want to buy anything and wish
I would have the more expensive better looking one.

I figure I'll go big or stay home. Not much middle of the road stuff planned for the
car. Not many compromises. It just feels like everything but Mugen is a
compromise, even though it really isn't so much. Damn marketing brainwashers!
