Hondata owners: Any complaints or problems?

Hey all,
I wanted to ask the Hondata owners if they have had any problems with it since the reflash. I am very seriously considering doing this mod as soon as opputunity comes where I can afford a few days w/o the car. I know there are many many thread on Hondata but I thought I would ask the owner, more specifically 05 MT owners, if they experienced any problems/complaints since the reflash. I hear from mechanics that playing with reflash and chips can be very harmful to the car as it overworks the engine and can cause problems down the line. This is my main concern and by know I'm hope I can get the answer from experience.
Thanks for your inputs

Absolutely zero issues at all with the reflash. I did bung up one of the clips on the steering wheel column, so it doesn't lock together completely (1-2mm gap). Other than that, I can't believe I waited as long as I did for it.

JUST DO THIS!!

You can always replace the cover. I did break mine when I pulled it out.

COMPLAINT: It makes the car way too fast. There is a perfect imprint of my back in the driver's seat. The car just rips out from underneath you unexpectedly and if it weren't for the traction control, I would be changing tires every 5000 miles. Right turns were especially dangerous, as the tourque increase flex's the frame so much the front driver's side wheel raises off the ground. I had a local machine shop custom fab a 60mm front sway bar, which just barely keeps it down.

Also, VERY IMPORTANT, if you're going to hit the gas, do it with the sunroof closed, as it helps stop the roof from twisting. If you forget, you will probably have problems getting it closed again like I did.

It's just too much power for the street. I'm looking at a few beaters right now for daily driving. I'm going to weld a steel plate in place of the sunroof and switch all the glass to lexan. This will just have to be my track car.

No issues with my reflash. Its the best bang-for-the-buck modification you can do.

The four mods I would definitely do over, without question, upon driving the car off the lot (in no particular order):
  • Reflash
  • Header
  • High flow cat
  • Rear sway

The Hondata reflash is one of those very rare modifications that doesn't seem to have any negative side effect. Well, other than not being able to drive the car for a few days during the shipping process.

Reflashed my 06 mt back in march of last year and have not had any issues so far. Very pleased with this mod. Fortunately I didn't have much downtime when the car was getting reflashed. Took approx. 3 hrs. at South Bay Acura.

For the most part, you can't. Acura of Southbay is unique in that it is literally a few miles from the Hondata facility so they usually just run your car over there.

Most dealerships are not willing to do this and the only other place I know of that can do this is Epic Motoring.

Does the reflash exempt Hondata from owners failing an emissions test? Has anybody gone through the emissions test with a Hondata reflash?

* Fully dealer compatible - works with all Honda scan tools and equipment

The Hondata TSX reflash is designed for use with an intake and headers. It will work very well with a stock airbox and stock headers. Testing was done with a stock cat back system.

Slows the car down too much! 1 less gear, more weight, frees up hands so people can eat gourmet dinners requiring a fork and knife on the road, apply makeup, how many more reasons do you want?

I saw someone eating corn on the cob while driving. Their vehicle only came in AUTOMATIC

Hondata claims that there should be no noticeable difference...but at least in the states, cars don't get smogged until they are 4 or 5 years old...even the 2004 TSX isn't old enough for that yet

That dealership was (or still is?) listed as one of hondata's dealers that you can go to. However, within the last year or so, I believe they changed management and now aren't as quick to do it for you. I considered doing it there too so that there wouldn't be any possible future warranty problems...but so far I've been hearing good stuff about epic motoring

Our cars are still too new to require emissions testing. Most OBD2 cars (1996 +) only require a tester connected to the diagnostics port under the dash to retrieve stored codes. No stored codes = pass. If you live in an area that still uses tailpipe sniffer during emissions test, then it usually requires idle and cruising rpm testing. Since the ECU is still in closed-loop mode under such conditions, there shouldn't be any problems passing the test as long as the CAT converter is functional.

I would hardly consider this a bashing of the reflash:

Also, VERY IMPORTANT, if you're going to hit the gas, do it with the sunroof closed, as it helps stop the roof from twisting. If you forget, you will probably have problems getting it closed again like I did.

It's just too much power for the street. I'm looking at a few beaters right now for daily driving. I'm going to weld a steel plate in place of the sunroof and switch all the glass to lexan. This will just have to be my track car.
I guess you missed the intended humor?

I think the hondata website sums it up accurately:

From http://www.hondata.com/reflash_tsx.html :

Driving Impressions

This reflash is difficult to feel because it keeps the torque delivery flat and smooth to a much higher RPM. Rather than the torque dropping 20 ft/pounds from 5000 rpm to 6000 rpm stock, the reflash keeps the torque drop to only 10 ft pounds between 5000 and 7000 rpm. VTEC transition at 5000 rpm is also very smooth with only a slight change in induction noise.
