Hondata 05 ECU?

I understand their is a difference in the 05 ECU's for the TSX and RSX and that of the 04 ECUs. i know that some people have the 04 ECUs in their cars but i'm alittle shakey on that. Does anyone know when and if it is ever possible for Hondata to do the work on the 05 ECU. i understand the problems because i read them on their website bt has anyone heard anything about it all. THANKS

You'd be wise to sit tight for a while until Hondata figures out the 05 ECU.

It'll be released in August.

The peak however will be in the 4k range (around +35hp +50tq) opposed to the 04's +26, +29 gains.

The 04 ECU I am using works just fine. Can't see a reason why you'd want to hold off.

Plus, having an 04 ECU on the side allows you to keep a stock ECU around when you need one.

It's not a bad idea.

So, how'd you go about supplying Hondata an 04 ECU? Or... what'd you do as an 05 owner?

Thanks,
Jon

tekn0mage said this
"Of course I can feel the gains, the engine for the 04 and 05 are completely identical.

The ECU is the only difference, and since it controls the Engine only, you aren't in any forseeable danger of using an 04 ECU instead of 05.

My advice is, go get yourself an 04 ECU from a junked/wrecked TSX. Send it to Hondata along with your key and immobilizer. That way you'll always have a stock ECU to fall back with.

Keep in mind however, that once you send your immobilizer, your 05 ecu will not work any longer. It will need to be re-keyed, this can be done at any Acura dealership. But if you can't wait for Hondata... this is your best shot."

I don't see why there would be any difference between the '04 and '05 ECU considering there's no difference in the cars except for amenities...

I sent my 05 ECU a few days after they began offering the TSX reflash. I was apparently the first 05 ECU that Hondata had worked on. Upon discovering a problem with the reflash, they contacted me and gave me a list of options (thanks Doug!). The option I chose was to flash an 04 ECU and use it until the 05's are "flashable".

Like I said, it's not a bad idea to have a flashed ECU and non-flashed. In case you want to go back to stock, you can easily do so without the downtime.

Also, there are no drawbacks that I can see from using the 04 ECU. Since the engine did not change, there should be no compatibility issues with an older ECU.

None to be discovered yet, anyways. :-p

If you can, go grab one, get it flashed.

We kept his 05 ECU for R&D, swapped it for an 04 and rekeyed the immobiliser for the 04 ECU.

I do believe using a different ECU would make your current key/immobilizer invalid.

The 04 ECU was provided by means of a temporary fix because I was sort of the first guy that sent an 05 ECU in. Upon discovering the problem, Doug @ Hondata quickly made sure my car was back up and running with minimal downtime. It involved using an 04 ECU.

After getting a good comfort level (at the time I was a little skeptical) I decided to go with it. Now after about a month of driving on it... I am convinced that it was the right move. If you have an 05 TSX and want hondata, time to go shopping. I am certain you can find an 04 ECU. I just saw a salvage TSX on Ebay the other day... they are out there.

Have you tried your other keys with the 04 ECU to see if they will start the engine?

tekn0mage is lucky, but more so that he is keen - super keen So he's being rewarded for being the very very 1st '05 user to send in his ECU to Hondata.

What Hondata did for him was kind of an experiement at first... even tekn0mage himself said he wasn't entirely comfortable in the beginning, but now he has absolutely no regrets with using a Hondatafied '04 ECU in his '05 TSX

Though I thought the Hondata rep. user (sorry, forgot his real name... is the Doug?) has written on a-tsx that if '05 user can find a '04 ECU, send that in with the '05 imobilizer and key, they can do it no problem. The imobilizer and key on '05 are NOT different than those on '04, so to Hondata as long as the ECU is '04 (flash-able), should make no difference to them. Anyone to confirm that understanding???

i'm so curious as to why the 05 ECU was changed and what is different about it that Hondata does not work with it.
