Homemade Intake

How hard would it be to make one? These CAI's look fairly basic in design to me. If you can make one yourself and get 80-90% of the gains then why not?

I think he's talking about the piece hooked up to the stock piece that connects to the TB. Is that not plastic, or some kind of piping made from plastic?

Speaking of dyno accsuperstar...are there a couple of places out there in ATX that have dynos available. None here, so if I make the drive sometime, where is one located. You know prices per hour or run?

1) cost me around 60 for the piping and the filter shipped + couplers etc.
2) i would sell it for 35+ shipping
3) i have not dynoed it.
4) i wanted a "prettier" intake as i just sprayed that one black.

as for the bend the plastic part is flexible and it is hardly bent at all.

that is pretty clean looking! but with prices around $200 including shipping, it makes sense to buy, plus you get FREE STICKERS

Wow. That's all I can say.

I've learned so much from the people on this forum about mods, audio, driving technique, etc. Lots of the smarty-pants engineering types have FORGOTTEN more than I know about cars but this is just too cool.

Acurasuperstar, you are my new hero.

FDL, I bet if you pay A-superstar a few extra bucks, he'd let you tell people YOU built it from scratch.

who is acurasuperstar

building an intake is simple. just neeed the supplies.

as for the sound i get from the intake it is the same sound i get from my injen. install is just like the other intakes. you can remove the bumper or do it from behind the front wheel well.

this past weekend, i made a custom ram air intake for my car. it only cost $10. The sound is awesome, and there's probably some extra ponies in there. if anyone is interested i can post some pics and instructions.

I'm thinking about making a homemade intake. But I was wondering what the stock intake resonator looks like. Anybody have a pic?

I have pics of resonator/intake tubing. i'll go down to garage and shoot some more pics and post them later.

the first thing i did was pull out the resonator and intake tubing. its held in my 4 10mm bolts. one is hard to fins and hard to remove. the easiest way to get to intake is to pull off front wheel and peel back wheelwell trim.

without the resonator, the sound is awesome. not noticeable at idle or cruising. only under hard acceleration do you notice the increase sound. i still have stock air filter in place. i plan on upgrading to k&n or fram panel style filter. should come close to equalling output of cai. it won't look as nice, but then again its only 1/8 the price of intake.

pics to follow.

Thanks. So I guess you don't have to remove the front bumper like Comptech says. I think the Comptech kit is a rip. It's looks just like stock, yet they want $170.

so KJLite, all you did was was pull out the resonator and tubing? im really considering doing this, seeing as it will keep the look closer to stock, and its a whooole lot cheaper. please post pics!!

also, how would this affect the warranty?

I have the same thing done as KJLite. Just remove the resonator and extra piping and that's it! But what cost you $10 bux KJLite? I didn't add anything, I just removed stuff....
