Has anyone ever over-revved their engine?

I was wondering if anyone has ever over-revved their car deep into the red zone while driving? Or has anyone mis-shifted and had their RPMs shoot way high past the 8K mark? This happened to my friend in his TSX and it didn't sound like anything bad happened to his engine.

I mishifted when downshifting from 6 to 4, but slammed it into 2nd, and it shot up to 8k, but I didn't release the clutch completely that I knew what was happening, so I clutched it again... and saved the engine.

I've done that before as well, but caught it before redline.

There is a rev limiter to prevent damage. I have bounced off it a few times on accident.

Wrong.

It has a fuel cutoff. This means that it will cut the gas while accelerating.

It will not protect against mis-shifting since it is mechanically coupled. In other words, you're doing 80 mph, turning the wheels, turning the transmission, turning the engine.

i haven't mis-shifted, but have hit fuel cut-off/revlimiter multiple times.

its actually pretty fun, just like in video game, revs bounce between 6800 and 7400 rpms.

TSX tears through the last 2000 or so rpms at full throttle. I find it difficult to shift fast enough not to hit when accelarating at full tilt.

No kidding. I have had trouble readjusting to my TSX after putting my K&N CAI on. The intake is so loud @ WOT that I can't hear the engine reving. And the intake adds highend torque and HP so it shoots from iVtec 6200 to 7000 in no time. Hit my rev limiter probably 10-12 times in an autocross today. Bad me.

Blacksburg, eh? My parents are moving there this summer. I went to UVA though, so I may have to remove myself from the family.

I actually hit the rev limitter/fuel cutoff at topspeed on the german autobahn a copple of times. Just before 250 Km/h (~155 Mph) the revs fall back for a copple of seconds. Worth mentioning is that I have the 2 litre DOHC version (not the 2.4 as in the TSX) and the car is stock except for the rims&tires.I was running on 98 octane fuel...
Anybody tried topspeed on the 2.4L ?

Did it once or twice in my Integra. Just didn't release the clutch all the way and things were fine. Never had much of a problem. Just don't let it become a habit.

Wow, thats pretty fast. I wish we could get the R version here. I dont think the TSX will get up quite that high as we have less hp and a heavier car.

I'm having hard times re-adjusting to the low redline of the TSX. When I get on the freeway, if there is no traffic, I usually bring it up to redline in 2nd and 3rd gears. Almost every time, the fuel cut would kick in before I shift to 3rd. I guess I'm still so used to the cars with higher redline, i.e. 7400 rpm (have gone up as high as 8000 rpm) in my Prelude, 8200 rpm in my Integra, and 9000 rpm in the S2000 that I co-drive in auto-x.

Or maybe I'm used to cars with exhaust/intake mods. The TSX is so quiet as compared to those. :P
