FINALLY installed my Injen intake

Whew! It's been sitting on my living room floor for about a month, and I got it in just in time for the Milwaukee meet tomorrow. It was a beautiful day to do it and a friend and I (Integra owner) installed in about 3 hours using the take-the-wheel-off method. If I had to do it again, I could probably do it in 1.5 hours.

Impressions after driving around with the windows down for a while:

Induction howl is COMPLETELY different than stock. It's much more of a growl/buzz now. I see what people mean when they say it sounds more "ballsy", but it actually sounds a little ricey for my taste. It's not as bad as some I've heard, though, and I'm pretty sure the power gain is worth it. The good news is that you can basically force it to sound stock below 3500 RPM and half throttle or less (for when my parents are in the car). I'm really interested to see any mpg gains/losses. I've been getting 26/33 city highway on average with the stock engine. I'm wondering if the better flow will improve (or if it'll all be cancelled out by my right foot ).

I'm hesitant to make a call with the ol' butt dyno, but it does feel like a bit harder shove above 4000 RPM. I can't really feel the dip in torque around 2500 either--I guess that's good.

Overall: a good way to blow ~200 bucks. Eibach pro-kit is next.

Clutch if you want to hear it at it's meanest, try a full throttle downshift from 5th to 4th on the highway.

Midrange power definitely gets a boost with this mod and the sound is great.

We'll have to go at the same time next to each other. See the difference (not expectin a huge difference) and I can tape it so you can hear it from outside your car

I thought it sounded ricey at first too, but it really has a nice growl to it. Matter of fact, I was driving to work the other day and I got to a light that changed yellow. So naturally, dump it into 2nd and floor it . So when I get to work, the receptionist came over to me and said "Hey, do you have a dark grey car?", so I cautiously say "uh, yea" thinking she was about to yell at me for something, and she goes "I thought that was you! I hear this VRRROOMM and see this grey car fly through the intersection, you were haulin ass"

I had a all day...

I just installed my Injen today in SRI mode for now. I was too lazy to finish off taking the resonator. I was tired after doing a full wash and wax before that. I'll probably convert it to CAI next weekend. I took it for a spin afterwards and it was SWEEET!

So were you flooring it when I did the flyby? If so, this thing makes a very visible difference. Hmmmm....

as the link above explains, if the part doesn't break anything they can't void it due to the part.

SRI = Short Ram Intake, although it's a misnomer since the air is not "rammed". Short tube with the filter/intake point inside the engine bay.

CAI = Cold Air Intake. The intake is located outside the engine bay towards the ground to access cooler air.

Unless your engine ingests something bad like a rock or some water. But the chances of that are low. Get your intake.

Oh yeah. I forgot to say THANK YOU to everyone who posted instructions on how to do this. I can assure you that I used every single one of them. Even old ones like Lung Fu's.

No Problem. My sad little website that never got finished. I don't have anything listed on that page anymore...no car, no intake, not even the manual.

Questions:

1. Do you have to change the filter completely, or just clean/oil it? And how often do you need to do so?
2. Does the ECU need to be reset in any way? Is the procedure in the manual?

1. I dont think you can just reoil it, might need to be replaced.
2. JTso said you do not need to reset the ECU and gave a good explaination why some where around here.

1. It's a standard K&N filter. Clean/oil every 15-25K miles depending on dirt.
2. Nope.

I saw this on their website:

"The Injen cotton gauze element allows cleaning and durability for 1000's of miles to come."

So that implys somewhat that you can clean it. But I didnt find anything that said "use this cleaner and this oil"

I'll probably just call them...

Ok Clutch, straight from the horses mouth, or at least the customer service rep at Injen:

"It can be cleaned, we suggest using K&N filter cleaner, and that comes with
complete instructions as well."

So its all good...

There's about a 3 to 4 HP difference between SRI and CAI from the dynos I've seen.

best to do CAI. Do some searches, you'll find some good explainations.

And remember, there are NEVER stupid questions....

The water has to be bumper deep for it to make a difference. Don't go snorkeling with your TSX and you'll be fine.

i suggest you check your filter every now and again as dirt/pebbles/road debris will get stuck all up in it.

With a CAI install, should you clean it more often??? It must get much dirtier much quicker than SRI, right?

In Arizona I would get a precharger for it. Arizona is a dusty damn place. Then you can just clean the precharger instead of cleaning the filter that often. Dry areas can use prechargers and places with lots of rain can use a drycharger. I have a K&N Drycharger on my injen.
