Eibach Springs

Has anyone tried to install a set of Eibach Pro springs yet? With the factory body kit installed, my TSX looks as tall as a Jeep. I don't want to kill the ride but I need to lower it some. Any suggestions?

I had the ProKit put on 3 or 4 days ago and it looks GREAT! I was worried it wouldn't make enough of a difference but it got rid of all of the wheel gap. The car still rides great. A little stiffer at low speeds (up to 25 mph or so). Anyway, I'm thrilled with the look and the ride quality. Wish I had a cam to post pics. Maybe will try to borrow one tommorow.

Great info! The pro kit sounds like it will get the job done. I just don't understand why the factory can't get that part of the car right the first time. If I were to buy a luxo-cruiser I would expect that, but not for the TSX.

Sorry guys but still no digicam. I had a local mechanic install them for me ($150). He said it was a real pain... much harder than the TL's he'd done in the past. Something about having to remove the sway bar and some other stuff. Anyway, still working on pics.

I haven't done any suspension mods to my TSX yet. But I was studying the Service Manual on how to remove the rear spring/shock assemblies. It looks like you have to remove the rear deck in order to get to the 4 nuts (2 nuts per side) for the top mounts. Sounds like a pain in the ass just to get to the nuts. I don't know how difficult it is for the lower mounts, but I'm not too worried about that.

As for the fronts, it seems pretty straight forward...just like a typical Honda front suspension. In my Prelude and Integra, I was able to change out the front spring/shock assemblies in 30 minutes.

Are there any special tools required (ie spring compressor) to replace the tsx springs? I remember reading somewhere that you would need a spring compressor for cars that have strut suspensions. Not sure if this applies to the tsx since it has double wishbones.

The only time you DON'T need a spring compressor is if you're installing a complete coilover kit which includes top mounts (usually pillowball upper mounts), springs, lower perches, and shocks all assembled before putting on to the car. Anytime if you need to reuse the stock top mounts, you'll have to use a spring compressor.

Are the stock shocks adequate to use w/ lowering springs? In the past w/ my experience w/ springs, it's been that the shocks need to also be replaced because they can't handle the extra stiffness and will go out rather quickly and give a harsh ride--is this also true with these Eibachs for the TSX?

Thanks for that link. I would still be wary using the stock shocks/struts and wouldn't plan on them lasting very long. I think they'll need to be replaced much sooner than they would normally.

Why don't you just post them on the Gallery forum? There are several free photo hosting sites online if you need it.

I think those pics just sold me on both the springs and the kit

I only have 3 questions, go you have a pic of the remaining wheel gap from the sides? I'm really thinking sportlines, but these might be enough... Also, what is your ground clearance on the front nose piece? And lastly, how out of spec is your alignment now?

Ok, I'm done with the interagation now

You should usually always get an alignment done afterwards, and I doubt these springs will be enough to cause camber/caster problems

I just recently dropped my TSX with the Eibach Sportline kit. It's a bit more aggresive than the pro-kit you guys are interested in but I have no complaints. I believe the actual specs are 2.0 inches up front and 1.6 in the rear. Sorry i dont have a digi-cam to post pics but once I do you'll be the first to see them.

Alright, here's a little breakdown of my experince installing the springs... and yes... it IS a pain in the ass. So if you guys are looking into installing them yourself, then be prepared to set aside a whole day for this.

I started with the rear springs. Now, to get to the rear shock towers you need to first remove the back seats. Here are the steps to reaching the shock towers:

1] fold both rear seatbacks down
2] remove bolts at the bottom of both seat backs... once removed, seatbacks just pull off
3] remove the seat cushions, its all one piece (theres one bolt, then they just pop off... pull upwards)
4] remove both side bolsters (bolt at the bottom of each)
5] remove rear deck ( i didn't do this.. too much work. I simply asked my friend to hold it up for me while i loosened the bolts to the struts.)

Now after all the sheet metal is exposed inside your car, its time to remove the springs. This is where i ran into most of the problems. The following worked for me:

1] remove one of the connectors to the sway bar. There are 2 of them. remove the one closest to the rear of the car. You might have to use an allen key along with a wrench to do this. (it took me forever to realize that an allen key fit into the screw)
2] remove bolt that connects the strut assembly (the BIG one)

that should be it to remove the shocks/springs from the car. You might have to pound it out a little bit. Try some WD-40. Once the assembly is removed you should have no problem. The rear springs are not that compressed so they dont shoot out. Although, be careful with the FRONT SPRINGS. A spring compressor would be recommended for those. I didnt have one and they shot out like fireworks.

The front springs are fairly easy to remove. After working on the rear suspension, you should have no problem with the front.

Im no mechanic so this is the best I could do. I am also in great need of an alignment! Hope this helps guys. I'll post some pics up soon.

Thanks...this is exactly what I was looking for. I have a lift and compressed air power tools to use. I will try to take pics of the install and post them up here!

very very nice. I like it alot. I wish I didn't have the snow to worry about here. Also, how is the ride? I dropped my Integra using the H&R sports (1.75" drop in front / 1.5" drop in rear) and matched it with KYB AGX shocks....the ride got uncomfortable after a while. May have been also due to lower profile tires. Right now I love the ride of the TSX and I'm afraid of losing it with the spring/shock setup.

Any more pics??

fooman i feel the exact same way.
Im afraid of ride quality in dropping it.
I know my car would look alot better with a nice 1 inch drop and 18 or 19 inch rims. But i do not wanna have my ride quality suffer at all. Too many potholes around this area for a bad ride.
I dropped my accord coupe 2.25 inches and also threw on 18s with lo pros and every little bump became aggravating because it felt like the car was slamming so hard.
It made driving unenjoyable but my car looked great!
I want a delicate combo of the 2 though.
So Ill just wait and see for some testomonials from here.

that's why i want to wait for comptech springs. Tjhe drop is relatively mild and they are ususlaly progressive meaning that they ride stays nice until you really get down to business.

I think the H&R springs were progressive too. But after awhile, the bumps got old and I wish I had stocks back on. But yes, my car looked awesome. BTW, they weren't supposed to sag either, but after a few years I'm almost positive that it did cause I had clearance problems later. (also another concern for putting springs on TSX). I wish Acura would make a sportier suspension upgrade like they do on the Audi.

I personally dont have a problem with them friggin with my ride. I jus dont want them settling on me in 6 months then having to go find a way to get a camber kit on there.

If i can find soething that is subtle enough to get rid of the 4x4 look and not have to worry about them settling so low as to be screwed into a camber kit 6 months from now. (this was the case on my 3.0CL that I used Neuspeed Sport Springs on)

How can you tell if you have camber problems?
By the wear on the tires???
Also i was told at the performance shop 1 inch would not need a camber kit?
Do you think that is so?

Just installed the Eibach Pro Kit. What a difference a little less hight makes. The car takes on a whole new look. The ride is comfortable at low speeds but not any different on the highway. You can tell the shocks are working harder though, so it's anybody's guess how long they will last. The front alignment works within specs without caster/camber plates but the rears need are a little off on the camber. The only way you can fix that are with some sort of adjustable rods. Does anyone make anything like that? Otherwise you just live with the rice rocket look... I think this is one of the first and best investments to make.

Camber problem with the Pro-Kit. I had the springs installed and during the alignment found out that the rears were out of spec and couldn't be adjusted. Just eyeballing the rears I could definitely see the negative tilt. The actual measurement was -2.6 and the specified range is -1.3 -0.3. So for you peps thinking about dropping it, plan on getting a rear camber kit or rotate your tires more often.

Regarding the ride quality, it feels a little firmer but not harsh or jiggy. Cornering at speed the car leans less. I have no regrets on the springs. Just wished I knew about the camber issue so that the kit could've have been installed at the same time. Camber kit on order.
