Cracked Flex Pipe in my DC Header

So I hit a large rock on the freeway and managed to put about a finger size hole in my flex pipe. Anyone have a lower half of a DC header, think it is worth cutting off and replacing or just ordering a new one from DC?

JTso, I dont want my old one back.

Throw it the gutter and go get another...

Try a different header perhaps like evo suggested

The flex pipe wouldn't be too expensive to replace. And if you replace it, if you had a hiss, it will be gone. I'm guessing about $50 total. Just order a new flex pipe online and then take it to a muffler shop. JTso has a thread that shows a link about where to buy a new double braided flex pipe.

Replace the flexpipe. We had someone in australia cracking his flexpipe as well. He replaced with a double wall braided pipe, and no more hissing as well.

I got the flex pipe from Performance Curve. They also sell on ebay but you pay more for shipping. The pipe I got is this one in 2.25" x 6" . The flex pipe itself is 6" plus 2" extension on each side = 10" OAL. I don't think you want to go larger than 2.25" ID for NA application.

The inside of the flex pipe with the inner mesh is 2.25" ID. However, the extension inlet/outlet ID is expanded to slightly over 2.5". But the pipe that I used for collector is 2.5" OD with a 2.25" ID (thick exhaust pipe). Therefore, the entire flow path remains 2.25" and the pipe slips right on to the extension.

I also found another place that carries the similar stainless quality flex pipes but with even more options. http://www.epiflex.com/epi_flex.html

They can put together any combination of length and size of flex pipe you want. I got a quote for $50 in custom length with flex pipe. Call the listed number and speak to Rich.

If the custom A-pipe actually provides gain, then I might consider coating the header assembly. This is the same place where I coated my intake manifold. But I'd probably coat the header with a different coating.

Damn, that's suck. You should get new one, maybe comptech or stainles stell header from Ebay. I am looking for upgrade header for my TSX next year but not sure which one is better. Good luck!

I heard that the stainless steel DC header clone from China has pipes that don't line up with the exhaust ports.

Okay, maybe my place at AZine is to offer up cheap DIY solutions to things, but why not just repair the hole with some muffler tape from Autozone?

Thanks HRJ, I will get this ordered up next week, and than cut off the old and replace with the new. I want to hear back from DC first, as if I pay $80 for a new pipe + install, I might as well see how much DC would want to replace

Just to be clear, I hit a large rock at 70mph on the freeway, thus it would not have mattered what brand of header I have. I am shocked it did not just rip the entire flex pipe/Cat off my car.

I am running this header and this is not true. I can't speak for quality control and every single unit, but mine appeared well built and has been performing admirably since install. I'm actually impressed for such a cheap header. There are pics of it in one of my threads.

What, no muffler repair tape?! $80 seems like a lot to solve the problem of having a finger-sized hole in an exhaust pipe. Maybe I'm just cheap...

2 of the guys at our australian forum also bought the same header from the ebay seller. On one of theirs, the runners were slightly misaligned with the flange that meets the exhaust ports.
