Comptech SS install in progeress, help needed!

I've managed to breeze through the trim without any issues or breaking, but I'm having a tough time getting the shifter mechanism out of the car.

I'd prefer to remove it completely rather than trying to install the SS adapter while it's still in the car, mainly because I feel I'll do a better job making sure it is fully snapped into place all the way down, and the set screws will be good and tight.

Anyway, there are two seperate cables that run from the car to the shifter, one right in the center that attaches to the bottom of the shifter, and another that runs up the right side of the shifter and connects to the pin on the side of the shifter with a cotter pin. They can both be seen in this pic (thanks xizor!).

I can't seem to remove either of the cables from the plastic shifter housing. The one in the center seems to be attached with a metal clip; is it just a matter of pulling this clip up? I feel confident that I'll be able to pull it off, but I haven't done it yet because I can't figure out how the right one works at all. Is it just pressed in place, or is attached in some other fashion? I've been prying on from the bottom, but so far, it won't budge. The Comptech directions do not mention it at all.

Any help on these two pieces would be greatly appreciated.

I've finally figure out how to get the shifter mechanism out. The right cable is held to the shifter mechanism with a plastic retainer, which needs to be rotated 90 degrees to pop it out. The center cable is held in place by a metal clip, which needs to be pried up from the bottom. You cannot pull it up from the top-at least I couldn't.

I am currently waiting for the loctite to dry, and I will go pop everything back together and go for a midnight run to test it out. I also am installing the aluminum shifter bushings while I'm at it.

I will post some pics tomorrow if there is any interest.

that's why I didn't remove the housing, Neuspeed's instructions were a lot easier to me.

Once you know the trick, I can't believe how easy it is to take out the shifter. And I would think that getting that ball off the end of the shifter while it's still in the car would be a major PIA..........

So when you pry it from the bottom I assume you'd put a flathead down there and just pry it off? and how did you get it back in because it seems impossible to get it out for me.

Also for those who went about with the Neuspeed way, how hard did you have to "gently pry" the white ball off with the 13mm wrench?

Yeah, pry up from the bottom-I used an angled nail puller, but a flat head screwdriver would work equally well. You need to pry it almost all the way off -pulling on it doesn't seem to do much. Work slowly, go a little on each side to get it started.

I was a little concerned about getting it back on, but I was able to get it 1/2 way down by hand with little effort. I then placed a big flat head screwdriver on top of it and banged it with a hammer. Only took two or three good hits.

you have pry very very hard. it got on easy though, you put it on the SS before you put the SS back on.

yes w/ the wrench, and I used the shifter housing and i put a screwdriver lengthwise between the wrench and side of the housing to not put too much force on any 1 part.
