Comptech IceBox "my first mod"

I just ordered a Comptech Icebox for my TSX.. I hope i will like it, did alot of research i know the injen or any open element intake will get more gains, but i wanted to keep it simple...

I also d/l'ed some sound clips.. I thought the Icebox did give some sound, and it was pretty loud also. Hopefully it's true, and hopefully it will make the TSX I4 thrashy sound go away!.

Please all comptech Icebox owner give me some input on the tone of the intake, i know many say that the icebox gives no noise whatsoever, but please confirm because i am kinda puzzled since i heard sample clips of the intake and i thought it did sounded good. thanks.

I don't have the icebox, but as far as the noise...from what i've read numerious times, you willhear a difference, but it won't as loud as a CAI.

p.s- I have the K&N

I uploaded a clip somewhere.
its not as loud as injen, but still has a good tone.
you'll really start to hear it around 4k and when vtec kicks in, you'll hear it roar.

O yeah i do have another question for you eurostyle, when you recorded the clip to the injen i notice you said that you were behind the speedo, and when you recorded the comptech one did you put the microphone outside the car? I asked because i thought the comptech sound more agressive than the injen.

Hey Perth, Is that only your intake or do you have any other mods that would change the sound? (i.e. Exhaust)

So you're not using a filter?

i am using the comptech lid, filter, and the pipe that goes behind the wheel well.

i took off: the stock lid, stock filter, and the resonator from the mid bumper and right next to driver side front wheel..

hope i did it correctly...

i had to take off my whole bumper or else i couldn't take the resonator out.. so right now i only have the comptech lid with the stock bottom box, and the pipe from there down, and the comptech filter in the box.. is that correct?

Oh ok that sounds fine.

The bumper off method is the real way of doing the resonator removal. Through the fender is kind of a hack but it works.

I installed my icebox this weekend. That bolt in the front was hell. I had to partially separate the bumper to get it out after trying to reach through the fog light hole for an hour. A small ratchet helped. Overall it is a nice an improvement. Nice growl at WOT.

Where did you find that price. That is the best I have seen.

I have been considering the Comptech IceBox for over a year now. I have the Comptech Exhaust, but I just do not want the interior any louder than it already is with the exhaust. I have put a ton of Dynamat in the trunk/doors and that made an improvement.

I guess when I fix my cracked fog, I will be installing an IceBox at the same time.

I've seen e-bay prices in the $150 range before shipping so that is really good.

jlukja, who wants one the more he reads about it.

imo i like the comptech alot more, maybe not more hp gain, but it looks stock and cleaner, and at lower rpm there's no extra noise over stock...

this is a must get for people out there who is planning to get a intake.

That noise is purely the injen.

My exhaust is standard, as is the rest of the engine.

sounds sweet hey

Are there additional performance gains if you use a KnN filter with the icebox?

Awchit, I completely forgot about your post. Oh well, too late now. Just ordered mine and will pick up Saturday.

Any hints/suggestions about the install to make it go smoothly?

sorry for the late reply, but two were recorded with the mic inside the engine bay and one inside the car.
