clutches

I was wondering what clutch kit would work with our tsx because when/if either a turbocharger or supercharger comes out we are going to need a new one and since i have almost 60k miles on my car (will have a lot more by the time FI comes out) I would be interested in knowing what clutch application matches ours

I'd venture to guess the regular clutch would be good enough for most applications. Once you get to the point that you need a clutch upgrade other parts of the drive train will need upgrades too.

You're going to want to upgrade that clutch. I'm pretty sure the clutch is the same as for the RSX but I think we'll need a guru to confirm that.

I know this may not help much, but I have seen that info someplace. I think it was in the most recent issue of Honda Tuning if someone has it. It mentioned the trannys of the Accord, RSX, TSX, and a few others. If it wasn't there, it was a link someone provided from TOV.

At 350whp you'll be wearing other things out in a hurry too.
If you have 60K miles on your car now, you're probably the kind of person that will probably get 200K+ miles out of it cause I'd guess most of those are highway miles. Heck you're almost on pace with the sauceman.

Yeah, you'll definately need a new clutch for FI. I believe there isn't a aftermarket clutch out for our car yet that can handle over 300whp... that's why the DAZZ doesn't push that much past stock clutch capabilities.

I know for my friends love Exedy clutches. If they ever came out with a racing clutch for the TSX I'll be down to get it.

http://www.coximport.com/exedy/

Check it out for more info. They have an RSX application, but nothing for the TSX yet..

Hmm... I'm not sure about this one. The quickest way to find out might be going down to the Acura parts counter and ask to pull both clutch sets and compare.

I'm not sure the tranny and diff is meant to take 350HP. Also, the internals of the engine were probably not designed with FI in mind. To jump from 200 to 350HP is asking a lot of standard engine components. Sure none of the parts will blow up on the first or second launch but the life of all of these components will be a lot shorter when you put 350HP to the ground vs. 200.
I mean look at the Mazdaspeed6 - that has "only" 275HP but they beefed up just about everything on the car and added AWD to handle the extra HP.

The RSX is probably the best place to turn for comparison since it's been on the market for much longer and there are many people running high boost applications for a while. So far I haven't heard of anything breaking other than clutches wearing out.

I think anywhere outside of a stage 1 kit will require a few internals be replaced. I'm think 350WHP is gonna be higher than a stage 1. You're talking almost double the horsepower.

Same clutch as an RSX-S (2002-2004 models). I don't have the catalog for the 2005 RSX. In other words, you could install an Exedy Cerametallic clutch and fly combo in there.

Thanks. Then again...I did try to figure just how much I could play with between the RSX-S and the TSX.

In the SSC magazine article the HKS guy said that they ran 15psi of boost with stock internals on the TSX. However they mentioned in the Import Tuner Magazine that the clutch did need to be replaced to handle all that HP. I'd assume anywhere from 230-275WHP is safe on internals and stock clutch for the TSX.

Now we'll just wait for someone to buy the Comptech Supercharger Who's in line to buy that beast?

Clutch Masters clutch is very reliable. We have tested there stage 3 from 200hp all motor to 450 boosting. Very good clutch and long lasting.

So all aftermarket clutch kits for the RSX-S will be compatible with the TSX. So we can choose from clutchmasters,ACT, exedy, etc...
