Most people are running the Random Tech Cat.

JTso is running the a custom Metal Cat.

DrkAngel is running a custom high flow cat too. I forget the brand on his though.

I now know Hytech likes the Metal cat, and welds one onto their custom exhaust (from the header), so +1 for that option.

Random Technology's cat is the only straight swap-and-bolt cat that I know of, and I got one.

Before the RT cat I ran a 2.5" Carsound Magnaflow. It dyno'd the same as the RT cat, and initially ~2hp better. I sold it to chuson. The RT cat's piping size isn't ideal.

The Magnaflow I had performed slightly better, and for half the cost. I believe this to be due to the mismatched piping sizes of the RT cat (pipe ID slightly less than collector outlet). The ideal solution would be something like a metal core cat with properly matched piping like JTso made. Magnaflow has many more cells in the catalyst and thus (probably) increased flow impedance and higher static backpressure, everything else being equal.

The CEL does pop up once in a while, approximately once a month. I have lots of part installed on my car now but I'm sure it's the High-flow Cat that causes the problem. I'm planning to get a O2 anti-fouler but not sure if it's really work. Anyways, the RT Cat looks way nicer on the exterior and seems to be a better quality build. But I love the Magnaflow too because it's cheap and it still hold up fine~!

^^^ Yes, that's the only way to clear the CEL.

Once a month? Man, I got like 2 CELs the entire 8 months I ran that cat. At least it sounds like you can clear them easily (like I could). Owning a scantool is a good idea for sure.

What part number is the Magnaflow cat, anyhow?

And how much improvement over stock 100,000km mileage OEM cat which was once used on an engine burning 1L of oil every 1,000km?
