Cam Gears

Would Cam Gears for an RSX-s fit on our cars? i remember seeing Skunk2 cam gears saying its for Kseries motors. So would that mean that it fits all Kseries motors or was it just mainly talking about the RSXs? Anyone have any insite?

There would be no point in using them, because the cam gear position is controlled by the ECU, and before we get an ECU reflash or K-pro, the stock ECU won't let the cam gear go beyond 25°, thus the uselessness of playing around with different cam gears.

quoted from hondata.com

"The two engines share an almost identical head design. Cams are interchangeable, so any Cam made for the K20 will fit the K24. Higher lift camshafts require better valve springs, retainers and spring seats."

Don't use the RSX VTC mechanism. As noted in the Hondata article, 50 degrees of advance gets the valves and pistons precariously close to contacting one another at high RPMs due to the K24's elongated stroke. Already an interference engine, you're only elevating the risk of your car destroying itself by advancing the cam that far.

25 degrees of cam movement is fine for a stock TSX engine but completely inadequate for modified engine with as little as race headers and intake. A stock engine needs no more than 20 degrees of cam moment on the high cam. A well modified setup needs no less than 25 degrees on the high cam. Take a good look at the modifications we made to the VTC mechanism. If you have a TSX you are going to need these changes. Although you could probably purchase and bolt on an RSX VTC mechanism for 50 degrees travel, there is less valve to piston clearance on the TSX pistons. Our measurements suggest 45 degrees maximum cam movement is much safer. Allowing the full 50 degrees movement leads to a greater risk of valve to piston contact should you accidentally mis-shift and over-rev.
That is, of course, in addition to the fact that the ECU can't advance the intake cam past 25 degrees right now anyway.

so I guess the conclusion is, the TSX will not have the benefit of swapping Cam Gears and Camshaft right now?

yes..no point in using them right now..

any probably not in the 04-05 future either..hondata says 45 is the most it could go while still being safe..

the 06 has greater valve reliefs in the piston so they might work with them...

but anyways..thats getting ahead of ourselves

HONDATA!! CRACK THAT ECU ALLREADY!!!

as far as camshafts...the tsx will not benefit from rsx type r camshafts.

it would be a downgrade...if you have a 04-05 and want to upgrade..get the 06 intake cam, t-body, and itake manifold

Yes... I read that 2 articles before you post it up. I knew Hondata changed the cam, but they use the K-Pro ECU which you will lose the A/C, VSA and some other tHings, the gains in HP/TQ can't justify for the loss in my opinion. I think what we need the most now is an ECU crack like K-Pro...

Does anyone make aftermarket cams for the 04-05 TSX? Or is the only choice in cams the 06 or the RSX-S? Also, is it possible to advance the overall cam timing in the TSX -- in other words, if you call the stock cam timing 0-25 deg, is it possible to turn the whole thing 5 degrees and call it 5-30 degrees? Perhaps that's what an adjustable cam sprocket would be for.

Well yeah, but you'd need to reprogram the ECU for that too.
