CAI vs SRI

Hi, this is my first time posting. I just purchased a `05 black TSX. I would like to begin to make a few mods and I thought that I would start with the intake.

My question is, which intake should I go with. What intakes have the best low end gains and which have the best high end gains. I do a lot of highway driving but I enjoy getting on the gas a little as well.

Any recommendations?

SRI - gives you low end gain not as much total horsepower increase. it also makes throttle response a little bit.

CAI - gives you more high end gain and the higest total horsepower gain for an intake. it actually takes a little away from the low end to but not much.

my recommendation is either a injen intake or a k&n intake. both can be used as a SRI or CAI as they are a two pipe construction. however they do make the car a little noiser at WOT (Wide Open Throttle).

Your other option is a comptech ice box with is a CAI by design that has a airbox kinda like the stock intake design. it does not create as much power as the injen or the k&n but it cause alittle less noise.

How much time does it take to switch between a CAI and a SRI? Do I have to take the intake apart?

well depending on which way you do it, it can take from 15min to 45min. if you take off the bumper some say it takes 45min-1hr however I have done it so many times I can do it in 30min at most. if you take off the passenger side wheel and go through the wheel well some say it is easier however I disagree.

here are some pictures of my injen in SRI and CAI. and then a picture with the bumper off showing where the filter goes in CAI mode.

its is about 14-16 plastic clips and like 4 bolts and 2 screws. I personally have done it so many times now I can do it in under 30min. The first time I would say it took about an hour since I was being careful and had to locate all the specific bolts. If you plan on doing work on the car yourself I suggest you buy the service guide for it which is the same one the dealer uses and it shows you how to take the entire car apart.

It is much easier to go through the wheel well, if you can get the one bitch bolt out. Otherwise taking the bumber off will be easier.

Try a search, this has been covered many times and there is much information on it.

Doesn't installing the SRI make the low-end weaker than stock?

Hey toronot_9 <-- I hope ya "9" does not has any special meaning.... haha

anyways, I'm from Toronto too, and I have got the Injen CAI too. Don't worry about the weather because my car survive thru the winter snowing and summer rainning, no hydrolocking whatsoever. Installation might be a bitch if you have not work on any car before. I took my car to install the CAI, Header, High-flow Cat.............. etc @ a shop.

Go for the SP. Your IAT wire won't be stretched that much.

Once you have removed the resonator, any changes from SRI to CAI can be done through the wheelwell liner. You don't need to remove you bumper a 2nd time.

removing the front bumper was very easy for me. no jack and jack-stands needed. 30min max to remove the front bumper.

The SP1431 is Injen's new intake with MR technology. Basically they say it's a tuned intake so that the air fuel ratio is optimized. Both the RD and SP though convert to short ram intakes.

as long as your car is stock height. I have to jack mine up since the front lip is less than 2 inches from the ground.

I've got the Fujita intake and I absolutely love it. Although the name isn't as widely used as AEM, K&N and Injen....it's a great product if your willing to give it a shot.
