CAI -- cheap and easy install

I found some left over air filters in the garage and decided to mount it onto the factory intake hose.

(air filter)

(ring/clamp)

(hose between air box and resonator)

(Cut end of a plastic cup, I taped the cup with painter's masking tape just in case if the cups tends to break or tear)

(cut cup 2)

Reason why I used a cut cup:
3 and 1/2in wide

2 and 3/4in wide

(shoved the cup into the hose)

(put the air filter on)

(mount the hose back onto the factory air box)

(I used one more clamp to make sure it holds in place)

(Wallah! CAI! haha)

it runs and sounds good for the air suction. sounds real deep when the vtech kicks in. The air box is empty for the straight flow from the aftermarket air filter, you could put in the factory filter too for a two layer filter, but it would make it quieter. My engine bay basically looks stock unless you really look hard for the after market air filter.

cost me $30 bucks for the whole setup. I probably won't get the full performance as the metal piping, but I got the loud noise I wanted. lol

sorry for the retarded picture sizes all mixed. I swear I had them all in one size.

wow! looks great. I just stuck my AEM dry filter on the factory intake piping, too, but mine is in SRI mode. If noise is what you wanted, the metal piping would make a small, but noticeable difference.

The metal piping kinda resonates the suction noise, but that should do for now. I like my SRI, but now that it's 90 degrees here in Raleigh, I got my CAI on the way.

Congrats

What's SRI mode?

yeah metal piping sounds good, but I don't know how to relocate the sensor for the mass airflow. The only thing I could think of is drilling some holes and use the sensor from the factory hose. How's that sound? lol

I would buy an injen cai, but i'm on low budget... way low! lmao
really I'm waiting until I save up some cash and wait for the warranty to expire, then i'll add the real pipes and parts.

Short Ram Intake - Like the name says, it's a very short pipe with the filter on the end. The shorter pipe with less bends means less restrictive airflow, but the filter is sitting in the engine bay so it sucks in much hotter air than a CAI. The higher the temps outside, the bigger this problem is.

ohh! damn i missed that lol
I had the filter in SRI mode earlier. I think it sounds louder than how I positioned the filter in the CAI mode.

You could've just bought a 3" coupler at Lowes for $1.50 lol

I did this with my comptech icebox (Took the mushroom head tube out, coupler and put a cai filter + hydroshield on). Did this in the middle of the winter since I drove through a 2ft deep puddle, and got scared shitless. So now I have 2 filters and a hydroshield on my CT ice box

LOL. seriously, at least get some pvc piping or something. even autozone or pepboys probably has some plastic piping you can use instead of a cup.

Dude, this is ghetto. If you are trying to buy a shield, you have to have the money for some PVC pipe.

Eat at mom's place or have ramen noodles for a week or something.

I have the injen hydroshield people say its not very water resistant, so i checked and its decent at its job. I used some goretex waterproofing see if i get any better at resisting water, pretty decent results. tested by puting my hand with a dry paper towel in it.

now that i think about it...yeahhhh How is that plastic cup supposed to hold up the filter..?! seems unstable. That could cause some major problems if you get crap being sucked up there! be careful buddy.
