Its not worth it being in debt, the new Civic Si looks really nice too... I'm trying to tell my good friend to wait and buy the Si over the new RSX-S.

well im on a 4 year lease. Its only been 1 year since i signed the lease. I dont even think i can return my car with all these mods i have in there. I love my car, but just wish i made smarter decisions when i purchased the car and when i got caught up in the whole modding scene.

Gauging strictly by these dyno results, a Hondata 5AT would have a power to weight ratio of 21.0 lbs per hp; the stock 6MT would be at 21.25. Torque would be 24.21 vs 24.28.

So it's gonna be a driver's race for sure, which in some cases would favor the 5AT, but a good launch with the 6MT should hold it off.

noone that I'm aware of has done tests head to head to support either of our positions.
I'm willing to supply the stock 6MT, but only for a few more weeks, as I'll be doing Hondata, so if there's any Hondata 5AT'ers around CT, let me know ..........

I don't know about that... I think a decent stick driver should be able to take a 5AT no problem if they drop the clutch from a decent RPM range. I mean, a bad driver its gonna lose no problem but 9 times outta ten a just decent manual driver is gonna be able to take the AT. Although I agree with those numbers its a drivers race.

Examining the dynos more I would say that a race between a IHE/Hondata 5AT against a stock 6MT would actually be close. I don't know who would be the winner though... I forgot about gear ratios and all that gibberish. :p

I'm waiting (impatiently) for Honda to release a sequential manual box, ala SMG or DSG ..........

You might see CVT's in 8th or 9th generation Hondas. I don't know about sequential manuals though.

i raced a 5mt base rsx before with a short shifter and exhuast. At that time i had hondata, intake, header, exhuast. We did 2 runs, one from a stop and 1 from a roll at about 15 mph. From a stop, we stayed about even through the 1st gear, and then he pulled on me once he shifted into 2nd. From a roll, he pulled alittle from the start and stayed ahead of me the whole time. So if a base rsx can beat me, im sure a stock mt can take me.

Thats odd... I raced a RSX base once on the freeway and I managed to pull on him. (I couldn't help it the driver was an idiot). I don't recommend racing in a TSX or street racing at all for that matter.
Did you have those 19" wheels on at the time?

I would have expected the opposite. Him pulling on you and you catching up and passing.

i had stock wheels. I ride around with him in his car and he always tries to race everyone else, so i know he knows how to drive well. Ive always been suprised by the things that happen to me with my car. I race a base rsx and lose. A Porshe boxster was messing around with me, and we took off from around 40 mph, and somehow i beat him. Sometimes my car feels quick, other times i have no effing clues whats up with it. For instance, a modded 4 cy Ford Probe, 118 hp stock kept up with me. I know how slow this god damn car is because my last car was a 4 cyl ford probe. SOmetimes i just want to find something terribly wrong with my car so i can have some reasoning for why some of this stuff happens/.

Thanks!

Keep your gas tank always 1/3 filled. Do not fill it up. You will see a measurable performance increase.

LOL my gas tank is always 1/4 filled (4 gallons) with these gas prices here in LA (3$/g) unless I make long distance trips. I actually make it around pretty easily with only a 1/4 tank.

Some of us don't need a car - fast or not - to impress Mrs. Jones.

Although a faster car may help when Mr. Jones finds out you've been "impressing" the Mrs.

I know what you mean Triz about the AT tranny and the car pulling hard sometimes and not as hard at other times. What I have noticed is that this is effected by how I step on the gas. I use to think that all out flooring it was always the way to go. What I've realized is that there are certain sweet spots where you need to floor it and other spots where you need about75%-90% throttle to get the best acceleration. If I want to take off quickly from a stop. What seems to work the best for me is to push the throttle to about 25% for a split second and then floor it. I think the key to the AT transmission is getting to know the car and finding these sweet spots in the throttle.

I have this one left turn onto a back road on the way to work. A few times a week I let it open shifting at 7500 RPMs in the first 3 gears. Today I noticed that while I'm in Vtec the car felt like it was pulling harder at 90% throttle. When I floored it, then it doesn't seem to have the same type of pull. It's starts feeling a little sluggish.

In this type of weather, my car drags way too much, even if i try to get up to a higher rpm. Say if i wanna go past 5k with my hondata, if im not at WOT, the hesitation will kick, and it feels like im actually losing alot of power than before vtec kicked in.

Ive been really considering lately of taking out as many of the mods in my car as i can and sell them. Im 7 grand in debt because of everything on my car, and its starting to feel that its not worth all the trouble ive put myself through.
Wow. Sorry to hear that you're so much in debt man. You should definitely slow down man. I made myself a rule that if I can't pay cash for the mod, I don't buy it. No credit cards. I've seen too many of my friends take an L when they went down that road.

You should try taking off your intake and putting the OEM one back on for testing purposes. Give it a try, it's free! I still think a lot of hesitation is related to the intake. I've had my Injen intake in short ram mode for a couple of months now and the hesitation was greatly reduced and is barely noticeable now. Lately I've been debating on getting a Comptech Icebox to see if I still experience hesitation with it.
